You need to work on those rings mate ;-)

As we are stuck with a rectangular screen, why not offer some rectangular analogue watch faces?

My issue exactly - at least create just a single Hermes-like style for the rest of us

Even though I’ve been adamant that they do not need to open watch faces up to developers, this is good point. This probably should have already been implemented by Apple, unless they have an agreement with Hermès to keep that style exclusive.

Then keep it exclusive but give the rest of us some good traditional looking square faces

My point being the square shaped face being part of the exclusives with Hermes. Most of the actual Hermès watches are square shaped.

I'm happy with a basic black background, this way I can see all my complications perfectly. Watch faces seem kind of useless if the watch doesn't have an always on display.

In my case, I don't need An always on Watch face if I'm not looking at the Watch. Hence, raise to wake addresses that or tap the screen when ever desired to look at the Watch face/time.

Well it wasn't the point I was making, but I like always on screen because raise to wake kind of sucks. 3/4 of the time it doesn't work because it's not lifted enough, not at the optimal level, etc. Many times I just want to see the display without moving my arm.

Raise to wake has much improved with sensitivity from where it was with WatchOS 1. But yes, it still has its moments where it does not activate when raising it.

I wouldn't say "moments", I'd say "most" of the time it doesn't work. It really drives me nuts as depending on what I'm doing sometimes I find I have to snap my wrist up semi forcefully just to get it to activate. It's even funnier in the gym because I wear my AW on a forearm band, but I can't blame Apple as that was not how it was intended to be used. Still, I have to raise my elbow like a crazy chicken every time I want to see my heartrate.

Truthfully, I use tap the screen to wake the Watch to conserve battery life over raise to wake. So I can't attest to how effective it is now. But I do think it's much better than what it was. But I'm not opposed to having an always on display, as long as it's an option to toggle on or off.

On my series 2 I rotate the dial to see the time. You can see without full brightness.

Most of the time? Sounds like there's something wrong with your device? Mine works 99% of the time - I primarily have issues if I'm lying down or something with an odd angle

I have 2 AWs and they both do the same thing. I think that's the issue, many times it's at an odd angle. Maybe I'm driving and have my hand on the wheel and just want to tilt it slightly, or I'm working with my hands on something and just want to glance. For it to light up you really have to turn it almost the full 90 degrees.

Same here, when I'm mountain biking I find I often have to remove my hand from the handlebars and really twist my wrist to activate the screen.

Yeah I forgot about that, riding a bicycle for sure I have to take my hand off the grip.
