I remember when I was first looking for a MBP, many people said wait for the M2 pro or max, it's coming in October, not worth wasting your money on the M1. I am so glad I didn't wait. With no sign of the M2 yet, I have saved myself some cash on an M1 and have a MBP in my hands being put to full use.
Moral of the story. If you need a Mac now, buy it. If you have time to wait, then wait.

I'm so happy that I recently got my 14 MBP with a big discount to replace my 2017 MBP. It is pretty sure now that in November Apple will release the new Pros with M2 Pro/Max but the improvements will be marginal and most importantly, since I live in Europe, prices will likely increase.

That's not entirely true
New MacBook Pro and Mac Mini With M2 Pro Chips Likely to Launch in November

Sage advise. I think the M2 will only be a spec bump, while I do believe a release is imminent I don't believe there's much that will change with the MBP. Apple rarely makes any major updates or adds features to a brand new design, or one that's only been out for a year. Also the elephant in the room for many people, particularly outside of the US, is how much of a price increase will they see?

With M1 MBPs being discounted at various retailers, and if the need is immediate, it is better to buy now and not worry about the M2.

given how the ipad pro basically just went from m1 to m2 with literally zero major change elsewhere, i suspect the same for if not duplicate formula apple has for the upcoming mbp lol

Agreed, and what convinced me was the apple store staff and online reports from apple analysts who stated that the upcoming M2-laden computers will be only marginally faster than the current MBPs.

With the massive discounts in place now, where I saved almost $1K on my 14", it was a much easier decision. The harder choice for me was between the MBA and the pro, more than acting now or waiting. The latter is like trying to time the stock market, just a waste of time.

Yeah, you guys are lucky. There are some crazy deals right now. I even heard that someone bought a $1400 14" MBP from Costco or some place like that?

I won't say what I paid for my 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro last year. It's a lot more than what you guys have to pay for it.

Honestly it’s just a great time to be in the market for a MacBook Pro.

Want to save money? Buy the heavily discounted M1s. Want the latest and greatest? Well the new ones are imminent and the wait is almost over.

Plus Black Friday is only weeks away and we might see discounts on both generations.

Maybe the wise idea is to wait and get the greatest of course depends how much it will be the one that I want.

I bought my 14" M1 Pro just after the M2 MacBook Air was released. I was waiting to see if it would handle two external displays natively. It does not. Bought the M1 Pro the next day and haven't regretted it for a second. Probably my favorite Mac so far since the PowerBook G4 Ti.

I just checked microcenter website and there is a very good deal with exactly the specifications that I want for $3,199.99 but for pickup only, no delivery. I'm in Florida, so there is no store in Florida. Is safe to buy Apple from B&H Store? I have never bought anything from them.

The PowerBook throwback might be my favorite part of the design. I've always disliked Space Grey but the design means even if something cool like Midnight were available I'd go Silver for the full PowerBook G4 tribute.

lol yes I've bought all but one of my Macs from B&H, both in person and online.

B&H is a major, long-time dealer in NYC - they are no small mom-and-pop but a large store with a lot more electronics than computers. They offer a HUGE selection of other products, particularly cameras.

Check with them to see if they would match the Microcenter price.

I’d say that’s a good rule of thumb for just about anything.

Similarly, I was hesitant to buy a Studio Display at launch (March) because Ross Young believed the Studio Display Pro with miniLED and Promotion could be out in June.

Then in May he updated it to October.

And now in October he’s saying Q1 2023.

Assume third time’s a charm and it launches in March 2023, there are a few things worth noting:
1. That would have been a year of delay (opportunity cost) had I waited.
2. Folks following him (or any other leaker) should be mindful of the slippery slope of release updates (eg June->October->March).
3. A March release would still mean he’s off by 10 months from his original statement. Is being right the third time still considered trustworthy?

I wrote an email to B&H asking if they match the price, so I got a response saying that won’t be able to match “in store pick up only items “
At least I tried.

I wanna wait but the odds of a price increase scares me off. The most important thing that drives me to invest in a Pro is that my 16/256 M1 MBA screen is just too small. It makes my posture get worse and affects productivity because I either need to lean forward frequently to read or zoom in more than I'd like to - which is counterproductive for side by side windows. I love it otherwise. No noise, no high temps, no excessive weight, excellent battery life... If only the screen was a bit bigger.

Do you guys think the price difference worth it to get a 16 inch MBP or 14 inch would be a better value? Same specs. Europe.

It was time for an upgrade from my MBP 15” 2015 to get everything in sync; 2021 iPad and iPhone, external display and HomePod, and fast USB-c external SSDs. I got a good deal and didn’t feel an M2 chip would make that much of a difference. The fact that there will be MBPs coming later than sooner does not make that much of a difference, but I guess it does feel better that I didn’t wait, and also that the price will probably be increased (I'm not in the USA, and exchange rates are not favorable) than what I was able to get it at.
