It will be caused by the JB! my brother is sat next to me with his JB iPhone and the transitions are choppy and stall on his iPhone

We are comparing the two iPhone's together opening and closing the same app's and there is a clear difference in the UI transition performance!

On my 3G they open and close very smooth and if i am honest with you the last update improved them even more :D i can open and close an app repeatedly without problems

That's like have a Porsche and putting a Skoda engine in it and expecting the same performance "sorry"

To tell you the truth, even when not jailbroken, the zoom-in animation isn't as smooth on my iPhone 3G when opening Mail or Voice Memos and sometimes Notes and some third party apps. The homescreen icons would abruptly disappear as the screen zoomed in instead of flying away like they're supposed to.

like that before I jailbroke...

and I'll take free apps + customization in exchange for choppy transitions.

My 3GS is jailbroken and I have no problem with the way the apps close, which is smoothly and normally probably 95% of the time. The other 5%...I just can't be bothered to care about. ;)
