The AppleTV4's speed alone is a big boost.
ATV3 is just fine for other rooms in the house that TV isn't watched frequently on though.

My Whole family likes the ATV4. Plus I'm finally able to ditch a standalone computer to run my movies from a hard drive. I can just plug one into the airport extreme and use INFUSE. Plus the kids like the simple games.

After using the ATV4 for a month, I as well, cannot go back to V3. The App Store is killer; being able to play Guitar Hero and Disney Infinity on the big screen without stuttering is amazing.

Anyone here knows if the ATV3 is "dead" to Apple or will it still receive updates, new channels and so on?

I see the new one and I'm not impressed nor do I need to play games on it. I just AirPlay games anyway. What's your take?

I actually bought an ATV4 on release day and returned it as it didn't offer me anything new or better.
In fact, i was getting all sorts of weird issues with streaming from my home share and the iTunes store on the 4, that i don't get on the 3.

The only thing now that would make me move to an ATV4 is the content apps. if/when Amazon Prime becomes available i'd buy a 4. until then, as it stands now - I'm sticking with the 3's.

I have two Apple TV3s and see no compelling reason to replace them. Not interested in games. My internet connection is very slow so I very rarely use streaming. I just use them to access a large iTunes library. Now I do wish the ATV3 was faster. Mine are hardwared and are much less responsive than accessing the same content on my MacBook Air via home sharing.

But it sure wouldn't be worth $300 for whatever improved performance the new ATV might offer. ;)

I enjoy the atv4 much better only because of apps. Plex on my atv4 is awesome. Plus hopefully more apps are generated over the next few months...

I'm not overly happy about the new UI on the ATV4 in comparison to the ATV2/3. I much prefer the Netflix and Hulu UI on the older boxes over the newer one. I was looking for my queue in Hulu the other day and it took me a minute or so to locate it. On the older UI its right in front of you in a list of other things.

I'm also not a fan of the Siri remote either. The touch pad is quite sensitive, and, at the same time, not sensitive enough. Sometimes when I'm scrolling through a long list of titles in my local iTunes library I accidentally move slightly off center and it switches from 'By Name' to 'Genre' or 'Unwatched' and I have to start all over again.

Using Siri has given me less than optimal results when searching titles. I'm not sure, but should it also search my local iTunes library too? That would be very handy. Other times, it won't find things in Netflix or Hulu when I know its there and it will take me to iTunes where I might have to pay for it.

Using the search function on ATV4 isn't very nice either. having all the letters lined up in one row and having to double back over and over again sucks. It was better on the 2/3 with everything together in columns and rows.

I'm still using the ATV2 in the bedroom and am quite happy with that. I'd consider putting the ATV3 back in and take the ATV4 out if it weren't for the fact that I sideloaded a bunch of ROMs on onto and that is fantastic.

Plus I have the Horipad Ultimate controller for the ATV4 which does make navigating much nicer over the Siri remote.

My guess is they will not say out loud but yes. The only thing would save it is if they decide to have a streaming service and want it to work on the ATV 3 for the subscriptions. Other then that I can not see them putting much if any effort on it.

I have both, and I love both of them. However, I can see that the 4 will have a definite advantage in the future seeing as the 3 is basically as good as it's going to get software-wise. Not only does the 4 have the App Store, but the app creators have more control over the apps now, so they definitely seem to run better on the 4.

I would say, as of right now, there isn't a specific reason to upgrade, but I have a feeling that were I to get another 3 I would be kicking myself after a few more software iterations on the 4.

I would have taken an ATV with the upgraded hardware storage and App Store. That's seriously all I wanted. It's clear they spent a ridiculous amount of time on the whole Siri thing and I don't even use the dumb remote. It sits there on a $15 Kensington dock I bought so I wouldn't lose the damn thing. Would have much rather had an even more advanced box with 4K. Given the $80 replacement cost of the remote the 64GB box could have been had for well under $100. Sad.

Sometimes it's just best to keep it simple stupid...

I'm afraid, even as a long time ATV user (ATV1/ATV2/ATV3), I was rather underwhelmed by the ATV4. I had been holding off on a console purchase to see what the potential was for ATV gaming, but it's nowhere near good enough, for me at least. So what ATV4 has made me do is look outside of the Apple product family. I ended up with an XBox One instead. It's not quite the same thing, but I haven't used my ATV3 in months now. My main ATV use was for Airplay music from iPhone/iPad/Mac (which I can just use Bluetooth for instead). Or pushing movies from my Mac using Beamer (and there is a DLNA equivalent called SofaPlay in the Mac App Store, which works with XBox and also my TV). So I'm not missing ATV, and wonder if I will ever come back to it. Sorry Apple. Maybe ATV5...

I'm fine with my 3. I hardly use it anyways and when I do, it does what I want. The only feature I could see myself wanting is the ability to use Bluetooth headphones/speaker with the Apple TV, which you can do on the ATV4.
