Anyone else prefer iOS for tablet, Android for Phone?

I currently prefer Android phones (just migrated from a Galaxy Nexus to a Nexus 4) over iOS. For me, a big plus for Android is the customization.

However, I prefer the iPad over my Android tablet (Nexus 7) and find customization isn't that big of a deal. The reason for this (I think) is that the iPad is mainly used for a handful of things (e-reading, web browsing, words w/ friends, etc.) and is mainly used before going to bed for the night.

I'm curious if anyone else is the same way.

There was a thread where people were discussing this (can't remember what it was called) and the answer is yes, a lot of people are like you actually.

I've never owned an iPad so I can't really say. I might get the next iPad mini provided it's retina.

Yup. I require more from my smart phone which is with me all the time. Whereas for my tablet needs, I require less, so I go with the iPad (3rd gen).

The iPad has the advantage of having apps designed specifically for it with mind.

So its ok plus the tablet competition isn't as strong as the smartphone. iPad still has some clear advantages compared to others and vise versa.

However when it comes down to iPhone, Android clearly has been innovating for the last couple of years. Apple released a longer iPhone and a meh OS update. Google/Samsung was able to release quite a few products which are better.

Think CNET for the first time gave best smartphone to Galaxy SIII instead of iPhone.

Just shows people can feel iOS being stale now.

Yup. I'm planning to get ride of my iPhone and pick up a the next flagship phone that Samsung releases (Galaxy S4?). I also plan to get an iPad Mini next year when it's upgraded to a Retina display hopefully.

I prefer to ignore tablets because they are a waste of money at this point in time (may change in a few years). I prefer to have a really capable smartphone (Android) and a so-so laptop for when I need it for traditional tasks. I prefer to keep things simple and minimize the number of gadgets I buy so I can focus on other hobbies.

Yep, I think this sums it up for me also. The iPad is kinda like a toaster to me. Very utilitarian, very dependable; great for certain needs. It's something I don't really even think about.

The Android phone is basically with me all the time and I depend on it for a lot of different things. I demand a lot more out of it and for this very reason really appreciate how it can better adapt to my needs via customization, widgets, etc

My preferences:

Phone: *Android (Nexus 4)
Tablet: iOS (iPad 2)
Desktop: OS X (though I have no major issues w/Windows 7 and use it every day at my place of work) (Mac Mini, iMac)

*one thing: It wasn't until ICS/Jelly Bean that I really started appreciating Android. I had Gingerbread phones/tablets previously and found them underwhelming. Using ICS/Jelly Bean got me into the Android camp.

While most prefer the opposite everyone has there own wants and needs. There is just too much I need a tablet to do that iOS can't provide. However I like the 4S for its everywhere portability and vast array of accessories.....

Same here. I carry my phone with me everywhere so I like the fact that I can adjust and customize my Note II to fit my daily routine. I have an iPad that stays at home so I mainly use it while sitting on the couch or before bed to just browse the web and watch videos. Don't even sync my calendar or anything to it. I've also never bothered jailbreaking it because it's not something I need on a tablet.

Eventually, when its time to buy a new tablet, it's 50/50. Might give android a try but have no problem getting another iPad.

I think this is the direction I am headed. iPad for sure, I love it for school and home. Plus having the apple ecosystem at home is just awesome, especially for music and movies. The iPad is still unrivaled in my opinion.

But yes, for a phone, I think the iPhone has stalled for now. I have been experimenting with other phones for the last month or so and I am pretty sure when the galaxy s4 comes out I am going to completely jump ship from the iPhone. I also love WP8 and am keeping a close eye on it- if a few more apps I really rely on show up for WP8 then that's where I'm going.

In your opinion of course. Tablets are much more portable than even a small laptop and are more durable; no moving parts (screen hinge).

My only complaint about tablets are the default keyboards at least in Android JB. Really want a keyboard with arrow keys to move the cursor instead of having to move it with your finger which basically doesn't work.

we have the same plans. Pumped for the s4. I really hope they dont make gimp on the battery with the 1080p screen like the droid DNA.

Started out thinking like this, but the more I learned about Android OS (after 4.x) and what my Nexus 7 could do, that iPad's can only dream of, I sold my iPad's. If I need to have a laptop, I have my MBP, but adding a BT keyboard and mouse to the Nex7 turns it into a good laptop replacement. I also use the Nex7 with a wireless PS3 Controller for console style gaming. iPad can't match any of this, much less use Microsoft Office or file management. A tablet should be capable of doing basic computer level functions. The iPad can't.

As for phones, I found an iPhone sitting on a clothes stand at my local Target last week. It was on and someone had been texting, as the texting app was still open. There was no one around this area, so I picked it up and waited for a minute looking for a frantic person to come looking for their phone. No one came, so I took it to the target employees sitting at the counter next to the dressing room. If I had been a dishonest person I could have kept it or sold it or whatever, but since it was an iPhone, I was never even tempted to take it. I made sure the employee contacted her supervisor and made an announcement of the owners name over the loudspeaker though, so they couldn't steal it. Point is, I would rather give an iPhone away than use one.

This sums up my situation very well. I started off with an Asus Transformer, then tried a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. I liked them both, but I've ended up with the newest iPad and the Note for my phone.

I found a 4/4S in Vegas on a video roulette machine. I hung out with it for 10 minutes, keeping it awake in case it had a screen lock then called the last number received. The owner gave me 20 bucks for not walking off with it lol.

On topic though....b.c of the app selection for tablets I think an ipad is the way to go. A lot of the apps on android tablets are just phone apps

Have you used a Jellybean Android phone? What takes one button press on my Nexus 4 takes four button presses to do the same task on ios, im sorry but when you put all the fanboy bullcrap aside, Android has overtaken Apple in the Phone sector and is catching up in the tablet sector too.

you said IOS is slow...if anything it is the most fluid phone on the market. Yes, JB has caught up, but it has not surpasses IOS in terms of speed and fluidity. I owned a nexus 4 running JB 4.2....I think it depends on what you want out of a phone. I do not care about customization or widgets, and am in the eco-system...so TO ME it has not over taken iphones. It is not fanboyism....it is what works best for me. Being slow is not even debatable

I agree. Depending on your definition of slow, if you mean fluidity and app opening time etc iOS is very quick in fact.

If you mean turning on/off settings, private browsing, uploading to Dropbox etc its quite slow.

I have a SGS3 and a Nexus 4 (Still undecided on which one to keep) and an iPad 1, I am getting a iPad mini for Christmas and giving the iPad 1 to my Granddaughter (Nearly 8).

In recent times, IMHO the iPhone has been surpassed by flagship Android phones, but, for me, the iPad is still the "go to" tablet. I must qualify that statement by admitting to have never used a Android tablet for any time over about 5 minutes though. I freely admit that I could be wrong, but a shiny new iPad mini waiting under the tree may be clouding my objectivity somewhat.
