You realize that OSX has no TRIM support as well, and the issues facing XP are the same with OSX (SSD related). Many SSDs (like the toshiba and sandforce controllers) have their own basic garbage collection routines and many over provision to keep performance top notch. My point is, don't worry about this and focus on other factors.

My main point is that XP is an old operating system and Windows 7 is a new one that is optimized for modern hardware. Windows 7 gets a big performance boost from the SSD, similar to OS X, while XP does not. I noticed as much on my old MacBook Air when I upgraded my Boot Camp partition last year from XP to Windows 7.

You can turn off Aero in Windows 7 if you want. However, I have found the new MacBook Air just fine for Windows 7 64-bit, both in Boot Camp and Parallels 6.
My 13 inch Ultimate MBA runs Windows 7 with Aero engaged under Fusion in Unity mode runs just fine. My overall Windows Experience Index has been just as fast on the MBA as it was on my old MBP. I have 2GB of RAM and one processor core dedicated to the Fusion virtual machine on both the MBA and MBP.

I pulled in a 3.9 on the Windows Experience Index under Parallels 6 vs. 5.3 in Boot Camp. In both cases, gaming graphics were the lowest. Oddly, the disk speed was higher in the VM (7.7) vs. Boot Camp (6.9). Processor scores on both were over 5.

That's interesting. I got a 4.4 in Fusion in Unity mode because of my relatively slow 2.13Ghz C2D processor but all of the other component scores were significantly higher, Memory: 5.5, Graphics: 5.7, Gaming Graphics: 4.9, Primary Hard Disc: 7.7. In the interests of science, I reran the index today after first running Disc Cleanup. That caused my hard disc score to jump to 7.7 from the 5.9 it scored four weeks ago but all other scores were the same today as they were four weeks ago.
