I just got my 3G tonight. I've been using it a good bit but not for hour on end.

I've noticed that I'm getting a headache and my eyes feel fatigued after just using the screen for a short time. And when I look up my eyes have to adjust to my surroundings like I was cross-eyed or something.

I stare at computers all day and I never experience this. Maybe it's a brightness issue? Do you want brighter or less for a well lit room.

I also notice its worse when I scroll down while reading websites. I tend to read while scroll and it doesn't seem as smooth on the iPad as with the iPhone or computer.

Anyways, I'm not bashing the iPad at all. I love mine! Just want to see if I'm the only one who experiences this and if maybe I can do something about it.

you must build up an endurance young one:D
try turning the brightness down

first watch the ipad at least 12 inches from you. when your in portrait zoom in. on text.
Dont read at night with the lights off unless your ipads brightness is all the way down and only read off ibooks and cloud readers so you can even lower the brightness a bit more.
Dont read sideways your ipad.

There are some posts from others, including myself, that find it too bright for comfort. Hoping a software update will allow for lower brightness than is currently possible

All good point!

My biggest complaint is I would like the ability to adjust the font size to my own personal preference and not be subjected to whatever Steve Jobs site preferences are. It's really amazing that on both the iPhone and this Apple for whatever reason will not allow one to do something that really should be technically very easy to do.

Everyone has different viewing preferences and for that matter different eye strengths, some with sevre stigmatism's that could make for tidious reading over time!

In a word, yes, but I was getting it pre-iPad.

This is not intended as a smart ass comment, but you should also get an eye exam if you haven't had one lately. I did last week and it turned out my rx in my glasses/contacts was way off. I'm sure that was a factor.

when i try to read Kick Ass the comic im like wth, its smaller than ants, when i read manga letters are huge. i think American Comics have way to much dialogue per image.

I always have the brightness on but when its pitch black i;ll tone it down.

My best buddy always loves to have it at the brightest no matter what...which i dont get. it bugs me if its full bright but dark in the room im in...

...except if im watching a movie, thats gotta be at the brightest.

I haven't used it in total darkness yet since I'm still putting my media on it as we speak.

Eye strain that occurs from using a computer usually occurs when one's eyes are too close to the screen, resulting in focal lengths that are unnatural for extended periods of time. Try holding the iPad a bit further away and see if that doesn't make a difference.

I was playing with the iPad in the Mac store for roughly 20 minutes. I got addicted to GodFinger...all that power..haha. Right when I looked up to leave, I felt dizzy & suddenly got a headache.

It is pretty straining. I'm guessing it has to do with the screen because I stare at my computer's monitor all the time & I don't experience dizziness/headaches.

I have actually gotten motion sickness a couple of times today using safari and scrolling up and down. Weird.

I ride roller coasters here in Orlando most every weekend and I never get sick, but Safari managed to do that to me today.

Two things about it are major to me:

1: You can't hold it close to your face, you have to hold it further away. It is more stressful to your eyes to have to cross together more and focus on a close target.

2: The glossy screen is bad for your eyes because you're constantly subconsciously switching your attention between what the screen is displaying and the reflection from the glass. This is a flaw inherent to glossy screens.

The screen brightness in dark areas also does not help, and studies are showing you get worse sleep if you're staring at a brightly lit screen right before bed.

Try to keep the screen as dim as possible. I set my brightness to where it's just bright enough to read, but not bright enough bug my eyes.

I'm sure the majority of people reading this stare at a bright screen right before bed. I for one can't remember the last time not using some sort of device in bed before going to sleep. Whether it be an iPod touch, ipad or my MacBook pro.

I get eye strain from both the iPad and my monitors when I read on them. When I wear my glasses it isn't as bad but I can't read for extended periods with my contacts because my eyes get dry.

With books I don't have this problem. I can read for hours on end with either my glasses or contacts.

I did two things
1. turn the brightness to the lowest level. => this really help
2. have anti glare screen protector. => this make it better.

I bought matte macbookpro for the same reason. I don't like glassy screen. it make headache

I bought my 3G iPad first thing at 5pm and ive been using it since. So far my eyes are just fine. I dont find they get any more fatigue than when looking at my iMac's screen.

I'm 44 and my eyes are starting to go, but the iPad doesn't bother them. My iPhone or Nexus One does, but not the iPad. It's perfect.
