I've been saying for years that an iPhone slightly smaller than the current 5.8" size would be perfect for me. I was ecstatic when I heard a 5.4" iPhone would be coming this year. But then, I was let down when I heard that only the 6.1" and 6.7" models would have the "Pro" features and triple lens camera.

I currently have the 11 Pro and I love everything about it. The battery life is amazing, the camera is amazing, and it's super fast. Having this same phone in a slightly smaller size would be perfect, but I don't want to have to downgrade my camera, etc.

I know we are quite a ways out from the new iPhones, but is anyone else currently struggling with this decision? I don't know if I should just settle for the smaller phone and suck it up and go for the 6.1" model. Ugh.

I was of the belief the smaller one would be the Pro and the middle size would continue as the XR/ regular 12 size.

At this stage, who knows

I’m happy either way. I’m looking forward to the smaller model, and my preference for that size is by far the biggest consideration for me. I’d happily pay the pro price if it had the pro features. If it lacks those features and is priced accordingly that’s fine too. When I play with the current models in the Apple store (which I probably do a bit too often!) I have no strong preference for the OLED display or for stainless vs aluminium. The 11 still has the incredible main camera too. Telephoto is nice, but not $300-400 worth of nice.

I think there are a lot of us who want a smaller (5.4") Pro. However that doesn't look like it is going to happen. I've always been same way with the MBP. I've always wanted a 13/14" version with all the same features as the 15/16" with just a smaller package. Wouldn't even mind if they were the same price.

The 5.4 sounds interesting but if that doesn’t work out I wouldn’t mind getting a 11 Pro. Anything larger doesn’t interest me. I wouldn’t mind squared off edges or a return to a metal back even. Would a 3 camera setup even fit in a 5.4 phone?

I’m beyond excited about the prospect of a 5.4” model. I currently have an iPhone 11 Pro. I like it, but have always wanted something slightly smaller. Something between the SE and the iPhone 8 sounds absolutely perfect for me. Something that can be easily used with one hand, has a small footprint in my pocket, and something where I can easily reach the upper left corner of the screen without adjusting my grip. And something lighter than the iPhone 11 Pro would be great - I love smaller, lighter phones.

“Pro” features would be great, but I’ll be happy as long as it has Face ID, 5G, OLED, decent battery life, at least 4GB of RAM, etc...

A dual lens camera is fine for me.

LOL, you forget this is Apple. They never give people everything they want. 5G & OLED + 4GB of RAM is laughable in a 5.4" size.

I think battery life would be hurt too much if they tried to put Pro features in that size of device. But I would be very tempted, as well as buy a battery case for when on vacation. Most of time, smaller/lighter.

I really, really do wish the 5.4" model had 'pro' features, but I'll still be downgrading from my iPhone 11 Pro to the new 5.4" model. I've longed for a smaller iPhone for years now.

I’m definitely willing to downgrade from my 11 Pro to the 5.4” model.

I hate that the smallest Pro phone is still bigger than the 11 Pro. There’s just no way I can buy a phone that’s any bigger than my current one.

This isn’t the primary topic of this post, but I’m equally excited for the return of a flat edged iPhone. That, combined with a smaller device, is what I’m most excited about this year. If for some reason only the Pro line gets the new flat edged design, I will be very torn on what model to purchase.

unfortunately rumored model will still have a notch (Face ID not ready for in/under screen yet, even if in/under screen Touch ID might be).

the only question i have about specs is if it will have the U-1 chip in it or not.

Ditto! I never owned the X-style phone, and one of the reasons is that you constantly have to adjust the grip to get to the control center, swipe right to go back and so on. It’s just tiresome and multiplies the risk of dropping the phone.

As a smaller phone person I’m highly interested in this 5.4” model. I will most likely upgrade to the SE 2(9) this year. Then the 2 or 3 generation of 5.4” could be next later down the line if they stick to the form factor as they always do.

I am super excited for a smaller phone- currently have the x. But am concerned about only having the dual camera. Will it matter that much? The only time I really use zoom is at concerts, otherwise I’m generally taking landscape or portrait shots. The other thing I’ve thought of is that Apple likely won’t make their leather cases for the non-pro versions, and those cases are my favorite. Going to be a tough decision because I already think my x is too large.

Personally, I have no problem going from three lenses back to two. The camera is one of the things I care about least in a phone, though. I went from the XS to the 11 Pro and, while the upgraded camera is cool, I can’t see myself missing it at all when I get the 5.4” phone.

Good question about if the triple lens camera would fit on the placement of a 5.4 inch iPhone body. I think it could be placed, but it would provide a really awkward/cramped appearance. The only consideration if Apple would actually implement the triple lens camera on the 5.4 inch iPhone, probably depends on the price point of where it starts.

I’m really looking forward to the 5.4”. That said, I‘m sure Apple will find a way to gimp it somehow. If so, I’ll pick up an 11 Pro. :)

I simply cannot get used to the 6.1“ form factor (have the 11 at work), so the iPhone 12 Pro probably won’t be for me, unless they shrink the bezels considerably.

The 11 Pro will likely be a sweet price when the 12 (or whatever they call it) is launched. I wouldn't have paid the original price for my XS, but when it was an old model it slipped into my price range.

Not really.

What's important to me is the size and if it has a recent processor.

I want 5.4". I definitely want 5G. OLED is nice too. Don't care about anything else, the cheaper the better with the latest design, Face ID, etc.

I am actually looking forward to downsizing my current iPhone 11 Pro Max to the 12 regular size, which appears to be the same size as the current XR/11

As far as the OP goes, you may just be better off holding on to that iPhone Pro 11 for a while if you really like the triple camera in the smaller size
