5.8 flagship is the sweet spot for me. I'm not interested at all in a smaller phone. That being said, I guess I'd rather move to a 6.1 flagship than be forced to get a 6.7 inch phone.
This post matches most with where my mindset is at currently. I was initially interested in shrinking down to 5.4, but I definitely don’t want to lose or compromise on a single benefit my 11 Pro gives me currently.

I did enjoy using my 6.1” iPhone XR when I had it. But I did find it heavy. The 11 Pro is my comfort zone now. It’s not too bad to carry and hold and the display is a usable size. The battery life is excellent and I also have the Apple battery case which works well for travel. I don’t want to say goodbye to the green or the 5.8” size so I may hang onto this phone another year. There’s no 5G service where I live and commute anyway.

I've been saying for years that an iPhone slightly smaller than the current 5.8" size would be perfect for me. I was ecstatic when I heard a 5.4" iPhone would be coming this year. But then, I was let down when I heard that only the 6.1" and 6.7" models would have the "Pro" features and triple lens camera.

I currently have the 11 Pro and I love everything about it. The battery life is amazing, the camera is amazing, and it's super fast. Having this same phone in a slightly smaller size would be perfect, but I don't want to have to downgrade my camera, etc.

I know we are quite a ways out from the new iPhones, but is anyone else currently struggling with this decision? I don't know if I should just settle for the smaller phone and suck it up and go for the 6.1" model. Ugh.

I feel exactly the same. I was looking forward to the slightly smaller phone with classic design, but will not accept loosing the tele-lens. I do not want to have larger phone, so if the rumurs are true I will stick with the iPhone 11 Pro

I don’t think I could even read text on a 5.4 inch screen.

Are you saying you’re old?😁

I mean, I used an iPhone SE for the better part of 18 months and it wasn’t difficult. Now if you’re starting to use something like Apple Maps, Absolutely you would want to have more display area, to see more detail specifically for destinations or even pictures for that matter.

I am looking forward to the 5.4” phone. I currently use the SE. I use my iPad mini 5 most of the time so, I don’t need or want a big phone, if all I am doing is mainly using it for calls, some text and the rre momentary search.

I want a small phone, as I only use for quick reference (rarely look at for more than 5 minutes), calls and taking photos (which I do take seriously). I go to my 12.9” iPad Pro for any length of use be it for work or leisure.

The only other option I can see if the 5.4” only has two camera - and the 2020 iPad Pro has the three camera set-up is to start using the iPad Pro for photography instead. Would look a bit strange, but I expect would result in better photos, as would be easier to see to compose and focus.

Very excited for a smaller phone in a world of larger ones. Happy to trade features limited by constraint issues, whether it's physical space or power draw. But not crippling it because they want you to get the bigger better one.

I recall seeing a rumor that the 5.4” model would cost $599. Does anyone think that’s likely? I’d love for that to be the case, but I think $649 or $699 is more likely.

I think it is going to depend if it is really a smaller 12 or a smaller 12 Pro.

I want 5.4". I definitely want 5G. OLED is nice too. Don't care about anything else, the cheaper the better with the latest design, Face ID, etc.

Going from the X to the 11, the screen hasn't been an issue for me WRT LED/OLED. I would want 5G on my next phone, I had planned to wait until this fall to buy but things happen. The 5.8" size was nicer in my opinion than the 6.1 on my 11. Maybe by the time I upgrade, I'll be used to the 6.1" and go with the Pro.

If Apple’s going back to 2-tier mainstream, I think it quite likely they go back to the 4.7”/5.5” pricing of $649/749. Highly doubt a lot of people would mind the extra $50 so much that they won’t upgrade.

This isn’t a dig, but can those wanting the 5.4” explain why they need Pro specs?

I‘m thinking most who use the 5.4” won’t be heavy users of CPU/RAM-demanding Apps.

I get the camera side of things, but what else would you need the exact same specs as the Pro models for?

That pricing seems accurate. If it’s reflective of what you have for pricing tiers, I’d agree that $50 wouldn’t make a difference in that aspect.

Apart from 3rd camera, OLED vs. LCD last year, slightly smaller bezels, and fancy stainless steel cosmetics, what really are the other “pro specs”?

CPU/RAM demanding tasks/apps?? ...No.... 11 and 11 pro have identical CPU and RAM so that’s nothing to do with pro specs.

That's it quality v cheaper. Also not everyone wants bigger. 5.8" is perfect for me and i had a Xr for 8 months.

Exactly.

After owning an iPhone 6, 6S, 7, X, XS, and 11 Pro...I can’t wait to own a phone that I can hold in one hand and still reach the upper left corner of the screen without adjusting my grip.

I just want a really good phone, and I want it to have a small footprint. Cost doesn’t matter at all.

Hmm ok interesting.

What about the higher resolution of the Pro models & rumoured promotion?

I’m definitely willing to downgrade from my 11 Pro to the 5.4” model.

I hate that the smallest Pro phone is still bigger than the 11 Pro. There’s just no way I can buy a phone that’s any bigger than my current one.
I feel the same about the biggest unless somehow they are shrinking bezels even more for an even bigger screen. I like the bigger screens but I think Pro Max is good enough for me. How much bigger will they go? Will we have the memes where iPXXX is bigger than an iPad?

I think there are a lot of us who want a smaller (5.4") Pro. However that doesn't look like it is going to happen. I've always been same way with the MBP. I've always wanted a 13/14" version with all the same features as the 15/16" with just a smaller package. Wouldn't even mind if they were the same price.

likewise! True road warrior, less doesn’t have to be simpler. I want the 5.4” 2020 iPhone be the Pro, and the 14” MBP be the evolved 13” with faster DDR4 2600/3200mhz ram, storage and dedicated GPU yet that’ll most likely never happen

It will just be a smaller cheaper gimped 11.

grr stop giving Apple ideas to be worse please. Please

I’ll either upgrade from the 8 to a well cared for and used X and later the 11Pro is the 5.4” is not Pro in high end features.

pretty much all the new features in the 11 Pro are beyond my usage yet I’m not going to pay premium cost for garbage low run hardware of the XR or 11R. Not born this year nor last.

The thing that annoys me about maps is if you try to zoom to read things better it only zooms the landscape but keeps the street names and poi names small.

Agree. I want a smaller iPhone than the current offerings but not with reduced features. It’s like saying you need to buy a truck to get a/c.

Yes, I miss the 8 size and weight; the 11Pro is great, battery, camera, night mode... but it doesn´t feel great on hands, I got used to, but is not good as the 8 was.

Maybe the "9" is great and for half the money... I wouldn't mind going back to bezels and touch id. If they put the single wide camera of the 11/11 pro, is a good choice I think.
