I doubt we will see a firmware update before 4.0 because Apple is selling every iPad they make so there is no rush for them to fix it.

I would be more worried them not being able to fix it. My original iPhone had poor cellular and wifi reception due to the all metal back similar to the iPad. That was never fixed until they changed to a plastic back.

What the hell? Let me repharse what you just said..

Apple is selling millions of iPads and is not able to supply the demand therefore they are not going to be in any rush to fix it.

Your logic is...flawed. What in the world does that have to with anything? In fact, it encourages Apple to actually get the fix out because the more they sell, the more visible this problem will be and the more cost they'll incur for support and exchanging the iPads. Do you know how many times I heard people went back to Apple store to get it exchanged? I know a buddy who went back 3-4 times before they told him to just wait for a firmware update.

Apple has already announced that there's a software issue with the WiFi and there'll be an firmware update to fix those issues. The problem we're all having is that they are taking far too long to fix this, we know that it's coming but come on already.

The majority of owners have fixed the issue by reconfiguring their network. Get an Airport Extreme or stop b**ching.

First of all, owners shouldn't be reconfiguring their networks at all in the first place, especially when everything else works just fine.

Secondly, do you even realize what is wrong with that second statement?

Apple already confirmed that it's an issue with iOS. Major universities have experienced issues with iPads only, it has nothing to do with the routers but the way iPads work with DHCP. Yes, reconfiguring something in the network to "comply" with iPads fix some of the issues but it's not the network that's the problem, its clearly the iPad' OS. Like I said, networks shouldn't be reconfigured in the first place.

I've gotta say that i think it is ridiculous an update hasn't been released yet with so many people (me included) having problems. It seems to me, along with the added wait for 4.0 that iPad customers are being a little hard done by in that regard.

Just as an extra point, i had loads of wifi issues when I first got my iPad to the point that every 20 mins or so i had to go into settings and turn wifi on and off again to restore my connection. I tried all the various router solutions etc to no avail but since reading about the brightness fix I have had no problems for over a week which has been a god-send. I find it hard to work out quite why it works but the fact is it seems to have done the trick for me, all i did was turn off the 'auto brightness' setting and voilà, no connection issues thus far. If any of you still with issues haven't tried this already it's definitely worth a go, worked a treat for me.

Fwiw, I have many more issues on non-Apple brand routers, but still had some odd signal drop with AEBSs. It is so bad that now I'm just using 3G (both are around the same speed here), since I am on. The road on generic routers.

Luckily I'm in the working iPad camp. I've used it on open, wep, and wpa networks with no issues. I'm wondering if iPhone 4 has the same chipset for wifi as the iPad seeing it will also have 802.11n. If so and if iOS4 doesn't bring changes to the wifi I'm wondering if we'll see tons of people with wifi issues on it. I should have a new iPhone next week so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well, it can't be exactly the same. iPhone 4 only has 2.4GHz N wifi. Seems a lot of apple hardware has wifi flaws, so I'm guessing it will be better but still problematic for a number of people.
