Is it just me or is it part of the jailbreak experience for the device to crash on a regular basis?

I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 and iPad 3 and both will crash several times a day. At least they 'respring' without any trouble but it is quite an irritation and I'm now at the point, after just a few weeks, of considering restoring them both back to factory settings.

I don't have many Cydia apps on either device and have removed winterboard after reading that it is a cause of the 'lag'.

Any thoughts or advice before I abandon the jailbreak scene?

You think there is lots of crashing? You must have never use a jailbroken 1.1.X device or a 2.X device. Both have a lot more crashing then I've ever known on iOS 3 or higher.

It has to be one of the tweaks you installed. I have always been jailbroken since the beginning of time and have never had any issues. My phone is stable and I have no random resprings.

Very curious as to what you have installed... I have never had issues of crashing multiple times a day. I have a good number of packages installed as well. Both on my 4S and iPad 2.

If it does crash it's once per week or less.

I got a 3GS, 4 and 4S and I got no crashes on any of them (to be completely honest, I get sometime a reboot when I get a BiteSMS notification when I am unlocking my phone, that happens maybe once every other month, no enough to bother me and I know exactly what it is)

Yes, watch what you install. Test, read and contact developers with questions before you install anything on your device.

I think it maybe tweak that is causing it. After I did the latest Jailbreak, I installed a most my paid tweaks from previous jailbreaks, and worked fine. I stayed away from winterboard early on, and tried DreamBoard, and while the the themes looked nice, it wasn't snappy... and my SB crashed a few times. I uninstalled Dreamboard, and tried to keep things simple with DashBoard X widgets. My SB crashed a few times, but found out it was Graviboard that caused it. I had shake to activate and noticed it crashed when Graviboard activated. I uninstalled it and no more SB crash. I did have issues with lag with Dashboard X widgets, but it didn't crash SB. I had to reboot to fix the lag... which I got tired of... so uninstalled DashBoard X... and everything is smooth since. I even went back to Winterboard themes, and it's still running smooth and no SB crash or battery issues. I think it really depends on what you installed.

I have stack of jailbroken devices (see my signature).
They rarely crash, if ever.

Usually, it is what you have loaded that cause crashes.
If you have any cracked apps, that is the problem.

no crashes here love my jailbreak. Btw I have evil Winterboard as well. So you have a jailbreak but no tweeks or hacks installed then why jailbreak?

Thanks for all the encouragement to stick with it! :D

I will list the tweaks that's have installed on each device...

----------

OK, here are the tweaks added to the iPad:

SBsettings
Activator
AlwaysClose
Infiniboard
Infinifolders
Quasar
Springtomize 2

iphone 4 tweaks

and here are the Cydia apps on the iphone:

FakeCarrier
SBsettings
Activator
iFile
eWifi
BBUnlocker
iCarrier
FullDrop
WifiFoFum
AppBackup
MxTube
DashboardX
iBlacklist
Springtomize 2
BootLogo
ClockHide
IconRenamer
Infiniboard
Infinifolders
NCSettings
OpenBackup
Unfold
WeatherIcon
WeeCloseApps

hmmmm....didnt realise I had so many on the phone!

although the only ones that I actually use regularly (or I guess are running in the background) are:

FakeCarrier
SBsettings
Activator
DashboardX
Springtomize 2
BootLogo
ClockHide
IconRenamer
Infiniboard
Infinifolders
NCSettings
Unfold
WeatherIcon
WeeCloseApps

----------

Quasar is a known cause and springtomize can interfere with other tweaks as well.

That's a shame, Quasar is a great app, and a paid one too :(

First suspect is one of that lengthy list of Cydia apps. (were they all from the legitimate repository, or the shady one?)

Second suspect is a rogue official app store app.

Third is user error.

Fourth is hardware fault within the phone.

not sure what the shady one is but the sources shown on the phone are:

BigBoss
Cydia
Dev Team
iClarified
ModMyi.com
Sara Official Repo (I did install Sara but ditched it)
ZodTTD

ok, those are legit.
The one who's name cannot be mentioned is not on there.

Winterboard crashed for me a lot. After I removed it on my 4S, everything was smoother and haven't had a single crash since.

OK, I found a few more tweaks:

Advanced iOS BootLogo
AlwaysClose
Cyntact
Serious SBsettings HD (not sure if I use that)

You know how it is stated jail breaking isn't for everyone? It is true. After multiple jailbreaks and issues I went back to stock on my iPad3 and 4S two weeks ago and haven't looked back.

I'm still open minded.

Since I opened this thread I've put the iPad back to stock (as suggested above) and will re-jailbreak by adding just the tweaks I really need and see how it goes. That way, I might even identify what it is that causes the crash.

Thanks for all the comments and advice.

Several unexplained restrings a day are usually signs of bad tweaks.

This happened to me from both Copic and Facebook this.

Try uninstalled each of your tweaks one by one. I'm sure the problem will go away once you find the tweak causing this.

You think that's a lot of tweaks? I have over 50 installed and add 1-2 every other day it seems like.

I have to respectfully disagree with this statement.

I am not advocating using cracked apps, but I myself have used some, and I have NEVER had a problem because of them.

My only problems occurred from legit tweaks, notably Copic (caused my phone to respiring once a day) and Facebook this (constant restring).
