do you people really put huge sticker labels on your cameras? Has nobody heard of sticker dots? they are small and cover the camera and don't look ridiculous like a label or something you can't close. Or you could you know get some black electrical tape and a hole punch and make one. No reason to use something you actually see.
Amazon - sticker dots

Doesn't work well if you want to regularly use the webcam.

I mean those early work but two comments. 1. I used what I had already on hand because I use them and if they fall off, you'll know when they're off. 2. My experiences with electrical tape and the goop they leave behind on whatever they come in contact with is not something I personally wish to deal with on my computers. See post #9

To each their own.
Yes I understand the electrical tape over time gets pretty gross. Those normal sticker dots would be better than electrical tape. i guess if people still want to use the camera sometimes then any kind of tape or sticker wouldnt work. I never use the camera so it doesn’t matter to me much.

I have a 2019 Macbook Pro 16 inch, one personal, one for work. I use the webcam cover slides from imluckies: https://www.amazon.com/imluckies-Ul...ld=1&keywords=imluckies&qid=1593112969&sr=8-2

I installed them with the right side over the webcam; I slide the cover to the right to cover the webcam. Both the LED and the Ambient Light Sensor are to the right of the webcam.

This device is really thin, and small. My mindset was to install it this way to avoid covering the webcam LED. And I didn't even think about where the Ambient light sensor was until much, much later. I wasn't sure if I had covered the Ambient light sensor, and I could not find a layout diagram. But I figured it out with a simple test:

1) Bring up Displays in System Preferences
2) On the Display tab, set Brightness to a low setting, and enable "Automatically adjust brightness"
3) Use your phone's LED, and align along the screen's top bezel, and keep it as close to the screen as you can. Run it from left to right along the screen bezel. The closer you keep your phone's LED to the screen, to more accurate your response. As you pass the webcam's LED, the Brightness slider (and the brightness of your screen of course) will increase, and as you camp out over the Ambient Light Sensor the brightness should approach the slider's maximum, and drop back down as you move further away from the sensor.

My company uses the Google Office suite, and thus Google Hangouts/Meet. With Google Meet, you have the option to mute yourself and mute your webcam before entering a meeting, but it's easy enough to accidently hit the webcam mute button. So whether someone can view me without the webcam LED coming on, doesn't matter, I'm more concerned with accidently enabling my webcam during a meeting, especially when working from home. ;-)

Even after reading all of the warnings from Apple about damaging the display, I still want a manual solution as you mentioned for allowing me to control access to the webcam. Apple is quoted to have said that the solution must be thinner than a piece of paper, has the solution you mentioned caused any problems?

Those are definitely too thick.

Well I put a very tiny webcam cover on it... and it cracked my screen! Luckily I had the AppleCare+ but they said I was the 5th that month already at the store where I was....

So definitely watch out with those new thin screens, its really not the same as the previous models where my webcam cover still works great on the screen but I only use it for backup now.

Post it flags. You can remove them and put them right back with no residue!

I've always used this stuff on a work camera. It is clear but matte, so it completely distorts the image. It is removable and reusable, and it is safe for optical coatings and does not leave any residue.
