I ordered the SGP carbon-fiber skin this weekend for my 3G and got notification of shipping today - in case anyone is wondering if they actually have them in stock. I'll probably receive it just prior to the iPad being delivered this week. :)

I have the professional looking Deep Black. You should know before ordering that the skin does not come right up to the edge of the backing. It comes short of about 1mm. Doesn't sound like much but leaves the edges exposed. If these don't bother you, then go for it. The quality is great. Just be very careful when installing it. I was so paranoid about matching up the Apple logo, I didn't think to get the bubbles out and I couldn't push them out as the skin is very sticky. Not too noticeable, but its there.

Thanks. Yeah, if you look at their pics, you can see the space around the edges. Fine with me. I want it to protect the back when I set it down on the table etc. when it is not in the case. My case will protect it during transit, etc.

I rec'd and installed my carbon fiber back from SGP. Absolutely gorgeous! Many thanks for the heads up. And no, no chance of residue. It is just like decalgirl skins or gelaskins, only with actual texture.. Very very gorgeous.

here is how the carbon looks, i like it much much better then the white, the texture is really cool, and it actually fit better then the white one

Very cool, mine should be here any day!

*EDIT* Mine was waiting for me when I got home today...much thinner than I expected which is a good thing because it won't interfere with cases and stuff.

Very cool pics jeepik!! So do you guys that are getting these cases plan on sticking them in a sleeve or something when your traveling? Then when your using it youl just have the sgp backing?

Does that seem risky to you? Are you worried about scratching the sides? Also have you found that you dont require a stand like the pholio cases?

I want the carbon fiber but im obviously apprehensive.

Still have my Apple Case. Will probably pick up the Belkin again or Macally. Not sure... just want something to rotate around for when I get bored.

The functionality of the Apple case is top notch.

The skin fits inside the apple case if you want it to right? What belkin/macally cases are you talking about? Do you use them over the skin aswell?

Yes it fits inside.

Belkin Grip Vue and Macally Metrolpad. Both have a clear back to show off the skin. Search here for pics/thoughts on the two.

I have Apple's case to use when traveling or when I need it propped up. I might buy a sleeve as well. I'm not worried about scratches on the side. I'm usually pretty anal about keeping my stuff pristine but I have decided that it's not worth obsessing over. I'd rather maintain the elegant design than add the bulk or cover it in all kinds of skins, etc. I mainly wanted this skin for the cool design and to add a better grip surface.

very interested to hear or see more about those stealth armor ones, my main concern is i THINK those cover up the black window on the 3G models, which would be a bad thing ( as far as reception goes )

anyone? pics? comments?

Hi guys, are the black and white "leather" skins really made of leather?

I got the cube one, which nobody mentions here. It's this guy: http://www.sgpstore.com/product_info.php/cPath/23_36/products_id/1322

I thought it would be some sort of soft leather but it's actually just a very thin layer of vinyl or something. The look is fine, but it was just unexpected. Is it the same for the carbon, the pure black and pure white or are they all different?

By the way it wasn't easy to put the skin on at all! It took me many many trials to get the Apple logo to be in the middle of the cut out. The cut out is slightly bigger than the logo, so if you don't position it well it'll look weird. Mine is still not 100% perfect but I guess 90%. Can't do it again, too afraid that the sticky part will no longer be sticky enough. Good thing though, it seems like the sticky part doesn't affect the back aluminum and the iPad should stay the same if/when I remove the SGP back skin.

I plan on splitting the backing in the middle then applying from the middle out.

@maf2k8 - these are pretty thin made of a rubbery plastic (or vice-versa). I don't see any reason why they would interfere with the signal. If it was metal or a thick, dense material like leather - maybe.

Was a pretty easy install. I recommend peeling the entire thing off, keep your fingers on the edges (short sides) and bend it into an arc so you can apply the cut-out hole portion of the skin over the logo. If you get that line up correctly, you are golden.

One a side note, with the skin on, the iPad still fits nicely on the :apple: keyboard dock.

the install was cake, i just folder mine in half kind of, and aligned the middle around the apple logo to make sure it was as even as possible then went from the inside out, it went on pretty easily

for those asking, mine spends 100% of the time in the apple case, as i need it for the stand (my ipad is my alarm clock) and it fits just fine, this back cover is very thin and doesnt add any bulk to the ipad

it does make the ipad look more professional, i like it a lot, hopefully it last a long time

I would not say the install was cake. My wife tried to put this on her ipad and after a few minutes, of her getting frustrated, she asked me to put it on. Between her and my efforts plus rushing it into the apple case I would not even say this is close to being put-on right. That said, unless your right up on it you can't see the goofs. In the end my wife is very happy with it.

Thanks to those who chimed-in about this company. I would order from them again. Great quality and very fast shipping.

Anyway, here's a few tips I learned along the way:

-Make sure to use plenty of the spray.
-The skin stretches so you should be able to work it closer to the edges.
-Don't put it in a case as soon as your done, let it dry.

WOW! That is cool! I really wish I could just get the back part, as I don't want to fool around with the front piece. I've heard & seen enough negatives that I'll stick to an adhesive front. I really do like that back part though. N

Nicely done.
