Nope, and the general consensus about it seems to big a big fat "meh" from the industry.
CS3 still feels shiny, new, and relevant. A lot of people just upgraded last year from CS2 and honestly have no reason to shell out the money again.

I'm interested in this too. Still running CS but I'm now eligible for the education discount. Hopefully, a few things have been added since CS . . . :)

Much of the industry is seldom cutting edge though, look how long it took the industry to prise Quark 4's finger tips from the edge of the cliff of obsolescence. :p

I think what you describe, is less about the industry in general being "meh", more the relatively short product life of CS3 has simply fallen out of sync with many companies update cycles.

I upgraded to CS4, because of a rather favourable upgrade price, that meant it worked out less than a days work, seemed silly not to really. :)

I've got CS4MC and there are big productivity enhancements as well as cross product interoperability (more so than CS3).

If you use a single prog minus photoshop and illustrator then you may not see the benefit, but if your shop utilizes the entire suite then you'll have an easier workflow.

I'm planning on purchasing the CS4 Production Suite as I'm a soon to be graduating student, and I need to take advantage of the edu pricing.

Unfortunately my school won't be upgrading until next semester, and I'm concerned about moving after effects files between CS3 & 4--will I be able to do this or am I going to lose compatibility?

I have a choice of buying CS3 Production Premium from my school for $150 vs. CS4 Production Premium for $300.

What do you think would be the best bang for my buck? I am running a 2.4GHz Alum iMac with 4GB RAM...

melisaaur i htink you won't lose compatibility, also, in a semester all the little kinks and bugs will'should be fixed in cs4...i would thinks and fo rfirst apple, idk, i would stick to cs3 fro half the price

That's what I was thinking... I have been looking back and forth at the two offerings from Adobe, and I just don't see too much of a difference between them. Also, I won't be doing any major work, just some photoshopping here and there and some movie editing of some home videos.

yes, idk if i was you i would just go fro cs3, then when cs5 comes out or maybe cs6 there should be a bigger difference but btw cs3 vs cs4 not that huge, specialy for the occasional user..

I felt the same way as many people in this thread... until last week, when I imported a vector into PS as a smart object, and I wanted to link a vector layer mask to it, but there is apparently no way to do this in CS3... and according to some sources you can in CS4. But after a few minutes I realized that would be a dumb reason to upgrade now. I just split the vector smart object into multiple files so no layer mask would be needed. Well, first I rasterized it and then split the vector, but whatever. :)

MAAAN where do you go to school? I go to a visual media arts college, and I'm stuck buying from adobe:(
