As someone who has used both Android (HEAVILY) and iOS.... I have chosen iOS because it is a better product, better software, better hardware. iMessage is worth its weight in gold because there is NOTHING out there that can do what it can do. Anyone who has actually used both would know this. Google Voice comes close but it is not as reliable or as quick.
I can answer phone calls, text messages, iMessages on any Apple device I have whether it be my iPad, my Mac Mini, my Macbook Air - and I regularly do.
Apps on iOS are far more refined, far less bug/crash free, and feel a lot more premium than applications on Android.
As someone who has used both (I had the HTC MyTouch, Droid1, and spent countless hours beta-testing Roms and helping users root their phones on DroidForums.net) .... Apple is better for me and I think it is better overall. Yes, it's a premium product, but I think it is worth the price. Doesn't keep me from trying out Android's latest and greatest - which I do every year (thanks to coworkers who let me borrow their phones, etc...).
Everyone is allowed an opinion. But it's better to have an opinion when you've actually tried and used both. There is a reason why Apple is successful.
Side Note: As someone who had to change his number due to the iMessage lockout (when I left my iPhone 4s for a Samsung Note 3) - yeah I think that was a bad one on Apple's part. I think it's stupid that it took a lawsuit for them to finally allow a number to be deregistered from their iMessage system.
For those that don't know - if you ever left Apple for Android (many years ago) - Apple users would try to text your number and since you used to have an iPhone, it would try to iMessage you. And since reverting to SMS if iMessage failed was turned OFF by default, you'd never get their text message - but they'd get yours. This would continue to happen until you let ALL of your Apple friends know that they had to turn on Send SMS if iMessage fails. Or, in my case, since 99% of my friends/family are Apple, I just changed my number (I later de-registered my old number when Apple gave the ability to - to be nice to whoever got it).
iMessage is a GREAT great tool. I just hate how if you have Android friends, group messages never work. So I use Telegram most of the time.
