Yup, I’m connected through esim.. that explains why I’m not on 5G
I am on 5G and eSim on At&t.

I’m on Verizon esim and I get 5G and 5G UWB. launch day Verizon was not able to activate esim on my iPad, I guess the new iPad wasn’t in their system yet? But Saturday I was able to activate esim on my own from the cellular option in the settings app.Yup, I’m connected through esim.. that explains why I’m not on 5G
Did the option just automagically become available?I’m on Verizon esim and I get 5G and 5G UWB. launch day Verizon was not able to activate esim on my iPad, I guess the new iPad wasn’t in their system yet? Not sure if it’s the task of the carrier or Apple.? Smartone Hong Kong said they are consulting Apple and ask me to wait for it. Lol I’m in a contract so i can’t do anything except waiting.I’m on an eSIM and Bell Canada only works on 4g. The 5G sim from my phone works at 5G.
still the LTE speeds at around 180 Mbps aren’t too bad so I guess I’ll wait for Bell to switch on 5G for the esim.
I’ve had exhaustive conversations with Rogers regarding the lack of 5G support for the iPad Pro with 5G. The bottom line is that Rogers does not allow any tablets on their 5G network. It doesn’t matter if you have an Infinite Plan with 5G and a tablet under that plan, you will not get 5G service on the tablet. My concerns went up to their “Office of the President”. What’s irritating to me is that Rogers sells the iPad Pro with 5G on their site, and features their 5G logo over the product image for the iPad. They also call out the 5G capability on the features page of the device on their site. They have a number of 5G commercials which also feature customers accessing the Rogers network from tablets via 5G. Lastly, there’s no mention on the pages for the Infinite service that 5G is limited only to cell phones and excludes tablet devices.Same issue with Rogers here in Canada 5g is fine on the phone but my Ipad pro will not switch over to 5G even if I set it to none auto switch Nopefully its just a modem carrier update thats required. Unfortunately Rogers is always a bit slow some times supporting new hardware for some reason.
Its a different plan, you can't just plug in your SIM card, you need to make sure you are on the 5G Tablet plan which is $20 ... I tried the same, plug in a SIM card and wouldn't give me 5G, I called AT&T and had to switch my plan over from an LTE plan to the 5G plan (Same price). It’s so confusing and I think talking to Apple and the carrier is not going to yield any meaningful results. I’d better save some time and wait for the problem to solve itself in some future iOS updates - or never.
It’s weird to see the same SIM card supporting 5G on the iPhone but only LTE on the iPad. Switching SIM cards between iPhone and iPad didn’t work apparently.
All carriers do it differently. Bell Canada said they will update a profile to push 5G soon.. at this point who knows. Its a different plan, you can't just plug in your SIM card, you need to make sure you are on the 5G Tablet plan which is $20 ... so i found and read thru this as i have the exact same issue. iphone 12 getting 5g and the new ipad pro 2021 that is not. I myself get just as frustrated with trying to get an answer and they cant tell you anything. Have you going back and forth between apple and the carrier. I can tell you with absolute certainty that it is the carrier. With ATT i kept pushing and pointing out to the rep that i have an iphone 12 getting 5G and showing 5G on / 5G auto / LTE option under cellular options on my phone but only 4G / LTE showing on the iPad. The rep kept going and finally after a couple reboot requests and whatever she did it showed on the iPad. When asking what she did she said she ran their troubleshooter which asked questions and followed by an action. She believes an activation of the 5G at some point. so don't give up on asking the carrier to fix it. has nothing to do with your settings on the ipad all i did was reboot when asked. hope this helps somemone elseI just got the new 12.9 inch iPad Pro with 5G and I plugged in the SIM card from my carrier (I’m already on a 5G plan and my iPhone 12 on the same plan can connect to 5G without any problems) and was surprised to see that my connection was only LTE on the iPad.
I checked the Mobile Data (Cellular Data) settings, and only LTE and 3G are selectable.
Then I checked the Settings -> General -> About screen and was surprised to see the the Network Name is “Carrier 46.0” instead of the name of my carrier.
I even tried to copy the APN settings from my iPhone and to reset the network settings on the iPad Pro.
It looks like that iOS does not recognise the carrier of the SIM card and therefore not enabling 5G support for me.
Anyone has any idea why this is happening or can your new iPad connect to 5G network automatically?
Thank you.
Update: My carrier called me back saying that they are not compatible with the iPad Pro’s 5G capabilities now but they are consulting Apple to add support in the future. So I’ve come to this weird situation of iPhone having 5G but not the iPad Pro cellular version despite being on the same network and same SIM card.
its att not apple. not the sim its some thing they have to do on their side. it can be fixed it happened to meIts a different plan, you can't just plug in your SIM card, you need to make sure you are on the 5G Tablet plan which is $20 ... My final answer from the carrier was that ‘yes we don’t have support for 5G on the iPad. We are finding Apple to find out a solution. But there is no ETA”. I regard it as a polite way of saying ‘yeah no we don’t support. And we won’t support.’so i found and read thru this as i have the exact same issue. iphone 12 getting 5g and the new ipad pro 2021 that is not. I’m on a 5G multi-SIM plan and my carrier at first said all the SIMs should support all kind of devices… until the CS rep found out iPad is another issue - for 5G it needs a specific profile from Apple to support, unlike LTE which is always supported even without Apple’s profile. That’s why they escalated the issue and said they would ‘contact Apple’ and find out a solution, ’we will support but we don’t know when’. Mind you it’s been 2 months already and I don’t think Apple will add the support to my carrier in the near future. Its a different plan, you can't just plug in your SIM card, you need to make sure you are on the 5G Tablet plan which is $20 ...
