I had mine at work and one of the other workers was giving me a razz about it being a oversized Touch. That night I downloaded a video of the ocean and the next day I sat down next to him, started the video and without saying a word and watched him. He hardly had time to eat he was so fascinated with it. It turned out that he is planning a trip to Jamaica and the underwater reef scenes on the iPad had him enthralled. He hasn't said a word about it since except in glowing terms.

It wasn't me that had one (not yet, waiting on my 3G to arrive)...but I was working a boxing press conference at Yankee Stadium and Miguel Cotto's little kid had one up on the stage. I was jealous, and then afterwards one of the media relations people I work with says, "Ian, I saw that iPad and realized how much you probably wanted to snatch it from the kid."

Perhaps, but his dad probably would have kicked my ass...haha

When i was on my way home from getting my case at best buy i stopped to eat at chipotle and since i was alone i figured I would use the iPad to pass the time. As soon as I got to the guy that was going to ring me up he says is that an ipad so i flip it open swipe to unlock and flip through some pages never even open an app but he all the sudden says he has to have one...

Lots of glances and comments while i was eating but no other direct questions.

was at starbucks (seems fitting) and a group of probably 17 year olds stopped dead in their tracks leaving the coffee shop. One kid was like "IS.. IS.. IS that an iPad?!" so i showed it to him and such. He left, and i continued to go about my business, then i lifted it off the table towards my face, and the people sitting behind me must have noticed, and one of them said to the group "hey.. he has an iPad" And maybe 10 min later, an older couple was leaving, and the older gentleman was staring viciously at me and the iPad his entire way out the door.

Im all for attention, but this is a bit much!

ugh, reading this thread makes me kind of glad that I don't have mine yet.

Another pro for waiting for 3G iPad! (I forgot what the other pro was)

Yeah everyone on campus freaks out when they see me with it. I'm a bit wary though cause a lot of them want to play with it. Not cool if someone were to drop it, scratch it, or try to run off with it.

I don't like the thought of all the attention. :( I might wait until the peak of interest has died down before taking it out in public. (When I finally receive one of course).

Me either, I hate it, I try not to use my ipad to much in class or anything at first, just because I don't want all of that attention when one person gets all loud and everyone wants to look.

Anyways, have had a couple of questions about it, show it to them, they ask is it cool, and the other most common question is why do you have it? What does it do for you that an iphone cant? So its basically like a big ipod touch?

In general people like it, know they want one, but are holding off to justify the $500 price tag.

Attention

I'm not a big fan of the attention either, but it does happen. Monday in a meeting - two people wanted to stay later to look at it. Some people are jealous, but who cares. I take mine everywhere at work as it takes the place of my notebook and a number of files. If you don't have Goodreader, get it - instant file system for the iPad. :)

The biggest positive impressions are from the pictures, iBooks and netflix streaming. The photo quality is amazing.

Posted from my iPad. And no, typing on this is not an issue, it's 3x the blackberry.

Waiting on my 3g, but they sure seem to be making an impact. Sounds like Stevie will sell an extra or two, for those few with extra cash that just crave the attention. They could buy one and go all-out, and put lowrider window dingleberrys on it with a couple of sparklers on top and hit their local starbucks.
