Anyone happy with MBP 15" screen?

Most people are happy with their MBP...you just hear about the ones that aren't...
That, and some people are never happy....

I have a 15" matte and (to me) it's perfect. No dead pixels, no dark spots (that I can notice, at least), I can't notice the screen-grain and it's nice and bright. My screen is the (infamous?) 9C60.
It's always worth remembering that people who are displeased with something are the ones who are more likely to post on a board like this. I almost changed my mind on the MBP after reading about the screen dramas, but decided I could make up my own mind. I was lucky that the Apple Centre allowed me to unbox the machine, switch it on and inspect it before actually purchasing. Not sure whether that's possible with a refurb, but if it is, well worthwhile.
All said, i'm super happy about the screen. I'm sure 99% of buyers will be too.

Go to System Preferences/Displays/Color. Check the Display Profile and mark the one named Color LCD. Click the "Open Profile" on the right. On the opened profile table, check #13 'mmod'. You will see four numbers
for "Manufacturer", "Model", "Serial Number" and "Manufacture Date". The Model number could be 00009C56, 00009C57 or 00009C60. If it's a MBP 17, the popular model number is 00009C62.
System Preferences > Displays > Color > Profiles > click on line 13 (I think it is 13).
That's not true at all
I have a CD MBP and love it to death b ut I have the grain issue as well as many others. Nothing to prevent the purchase of an MBP but seriously if there is an issue people need to point it out.We've had our new C2D 15" for about three weeks now and are well pleased with the screen. What surprised me was the horizontal viewing angle - excellent. I was working on my Quad and dual 20" ACDs and had the MBP off to the side doing an update - probably looking at it at least 35 degree off center - not bad at all. No dead / stuck pixels, reasonably even illumination, and no grain whatsoever.
From the sites it apears that there are some issues with some of the screens, but we are happy campers with ours.

I don't see anything wrong with my display. I came from a 12" iBook and honestly, that screen sucked (too dim and uneven lighting).

Argh. Why do a few people keep posting these "is ANYONE happy with..." threads? Do you guys always assume the worst in any situation? If you hear a bunch of people talking, and one of them is moaning and complaining, do you only listen to that person? Haven't you read any of the many posts from people (like me) that have said repeatedly...

Okay on a more serious note. If you're really that concerned, find a retailer that carries Apple laptops and go see for yourself. That's really the fastest path to your own peace of mind. Don't buy anything you're not sure about. And maybe next time use a line more like "How many of you are happy with ..."

Why don't you go see for yourself. If you dont know or can't see what we're talking about, then don't worry about it. I see this "Grain" but to ME it seems like any other lcd i've seen. I wouldn't mind if Apple changed it or not.
Btw I also have the infamous 9C60.
If you have a monitor calibration puck try downloading Coloreyes and calibrating it to gamma L* instead of the stock 2.2.

i think the complaints on the screens are dying down, meaning Apple is fixing the problem. I also think it was only a small period of time the laptops were crap, which i guess happens.
I do have a 17" laptop that has crap illumination, but a rep from Corporate Executive Relations at Apple contacted me after i emailed them and he assures me he can get me a good laptop. I told him i am sending in for a refund but he told me to reconsider, so i am giving them a chance. He contacted the manager at the local Apple store and i am set up to go in this week to find a laptop to my liking. He seemed certain i will find a laptop to my liking--short of guarantee of course because such things could be considered subjective. So i think at this time the problem may be going away. I originally though it was overblown but then i was surprised to see i received a 'bad' screen. so how big is the problem? who knows. is it going away?...maybe.
