Not really, the entire Facebook API is server based.

Albeit minimal, my Facebook app UI is probably different than yours.
Same with their messenger app, they seem to make random UI changes to it on a daily basis. They had a handy search button in the text field to find gifs and stickers quickly and then they removed it, they recently removed the enhance button when selecting a image and the image selector seems to have lost support for landscape on iPhone. The times they do push updates through the app store they never give a changelog which has to be one of the most annoying trends on the app store right now.

Seriously though, I think they did exactly that because each user sees different UI and may have features other don't. For example, I'm the only one amongst my friends to have 'Profile Videos'.

I don't mind it on the iPhpne, with the exception of the new subscription circles at the top. That design makes ZERO sense if you follow many people. I don't typically ever navigate subscriptions in that fashion, unless looking for a specific channel. I generally just scroll through the new videos under the 'Subscriptions' section, which is more or less the same - just moved. I guess if you get used to it, it does utilize swiping back...but so did the old UI. I'd still much prefer the older UI. On the iPad though, this is horrible. They now have a one star review on the App Store with thousands of one star ratings as a result of this new UI.

Ohhh, I thought you were talking about YouTube. Never mind. I saw a post from a friend who recently mentioned he had this feature as well. Throughout the years every now and then I've had one of those 'slow roll out' features that seemingly nobody else had. It seems like for this one, they're maybe targeting Live Photos? Who knows. I use the Paper app by Facebook instead of the actual FB app, but out of curiosity I redone loaded FB and was able to 'take a video' as a profile photo...don't really see the point though. Users would still have to click or tap on it in order for the video to display if they're not using that specific version of the app.

Hey me too! Mainly because it uploads high-res photos, wish the main FB app would do the same so I can add 'feeling'. Here's something else that's new:

It starts looping at landing, much like the silent videos on timeline.

While tinkering with the FB app (I re download every now and then since the f-- description doesn't ever say what's new) I found this toggle in regards to HD video/pics:

Interesting...I still have the old layout for the 'feeling, etc' while I do have the new profile video option. I wish paper would bring that feature over!

It also started around the time Facebook stripped messenger out the app, the negative reviews were so high because of that and other changes that they just stopped listing any changes made to the app thinking it would quiet people down. I suppose other devs caught onto this very quickly.

Wow, this could be it!!
Let me see if it's full-res like Paper.

[Edit]
Okay tried it, it does upload full res but compression differs. Uploaded the same picture twice.
Paper generates a file size roughly 6% larger than the FB app, less noise on FB compression though.
