iPad Anyone here currently or going iPad Pro only?

I have a Note 9, a gaming PC, and an iPad Pro. Guess what’s missing ? That’s right a Laptop. I just don’t need one. And how expensive they are. $1,000 or $1,500 or a MacBook Pro at $2,000+ or a Gaming Laptop that is riddled with compromises.
I’d argue than a Note 9 with Hotspot tethering to an iPad Pro is a far more advanced and powerful technology set than a high end Laptop limited to WiFi.
Now I will jump into the Laptop world when I see a GSync 144Hz Intel 10nm PCI Express. 5.0 32GB DDR5 Laptop with WiFi 6 and an 7nm NVIDIA RTX 3070 GPU. Around 2021. By then my 11” iPad Pro will be sold.
How do you like your Note 9? I’ve been looking at the s10 5g and the upcoming Note 10
I've been trying it. It's a bit of a learning curve. I would make it a transition, not just some cold turkey all in change.
I think the iPP can do quite a bit, but isn't a laptop replacement. I think it's more an alternative if you are really willing to work on making it a replacement. For myself right now an alternative. With my mini as a desktop, and the iPP as my traveling device.
There's a Youtuber I've watched who does everything on his iPP since the last generation one. You may want to consider watching a few of his vids to give you an idea how practical it might be for you.

My plan is quite similar to what @TheRealAlex said. I think we're now through a transition on the laptop market, especially when it comes to Apple (catalyst, MacBook new design, possibly ARM chips...), But I need a new device because my old 2010 MacBook pro is... Old.
I'm a bit afraid tho. I think I don't need any macOS specific software, and I will use the next 11" iPad Pro to read a lot, also to take notes etc.
But I like to multitask, and attaching an external display to my MacBook pro felt pretty natural and a good way to have two screens.
The iPad Pro just mirrors and doesn't take advantage of my external 24" screen so that's the only turn off for me. If the MacBook Air was a bit more powerful, even if it was just the iGPU...
That being said, in order to make the jump I've already purchased a 2014 mini, the 2,6GHz with the Iris 5100 GPU, but only 8GB of RAM. I'm going to upgrade it with an SSD but still, I feel the RAM will be on the verge of being enough (I've already seen red colored RAM compression, although maybe the Epic Store is just garbage).
My next Mac is going to be at least 16GB of RAM but getting a laptop with that amount of memory and decent storage for a computer made it go to 2.000€ machine so... Nope, I'm getting the next 11" iPad Pro instead to replace my old MBP, having the 2014 mini as a backup.

Yup, we all need the right tool for the right job to suit our differing needs whilst balancing costs. I can understand where you are coming from even if I don’t have the same needs. I love my mobile workstation windows laptop for work, and my MacBook Pro for Final Cut Pro editing, and my iPad Pro for note taking, browsing, forums and media consumption. They each do certain things better for me than the other so for me I can’t see reducing myself to two or one device, though I can understand that others can.
I am iPad Pro 12.9 with XR only. Don’t miss the laptop and since iPadOS, I rarely need to use a desktop for anything other than gaming.
Makes zero sense to me. Rephrased: I don’t need a notebook because my iPad is good enough, but I will sell my iPad later on for a laptop given the specs are right?
Currently thinking of replacing my desktop with an iPad Pro as my only computing device (other than my phone). My needs involve re-encoding videos in handbrake to play on my TV, photo/video editing, 3D modelling and gaming. The rest of the time is just consuming content on the internet.

There's a lot of other things I have an interest in, so will probably drop it to have more time for them. Gaming is something I don't find my self doing much of either and am moving away from competitive FPS to story driven platform genres, so might make the switch to console gaming.
Been doing some research on workflows with photo/video editing on the iPad Pro and looks like it will fill my needs. They're only done as a hobby, nothing too crazy, may I outgrow the iPad? Maybe. The additions iPadOS brings with better multitasking and proper file system access really got me considering this could work *for me*.

I did it for quite a while with iPP and iPhone. Ultimately this year I bought another iMac, mainly because I got some work from home opportunities with my p/t job that will just be easier on a desktop. That and I wanted the ability to do some digital scrapbooking, which is the only thing I haven’t been able to find a way to do on my iPad.
Now granted, nothing I do on a daily basis requires much more than basic apps/usage, so I’m probably not a prime example, but I LOVED the simplicity of it.

For me, while I love my iPad Pro and use it 90% of the time, that other percent is much MUCH easier and faster on our family’s 27” iMac.

- “Smaller” iPhone 7 screen for mobile use.
- 10.5” iPad Pro use for most other circumstances.
- 27” iMac use for longer tasks or more specific tasks.
I have iPP 10.5” and XS Max, and have just ordered the 12.9” iPP to replace the 10.5”. However, despite this I would not be without my 27” iMac, for me there are still too many programs and situations where iOS doesn’t cut it.
I am going to try. My MBP and iPad are both ancient. I got into light 4K video editing which was a non starter on both. Bought a solid spec "gaming" windows notebook which still struggled. Ordered a 12.9" 512GB 3rd gen with the goal to replace/update both my notebook and iPad. Most of my usage is consumption and web browsing. I don't type extended documents or email outside of work, which I have to use a windows PC for. We shall see how it goes.
Unfortunately my laptop is home to several Sims 4 saves, so no.
If the IOS and PadOS article today is correct about a functioning download manager, I'll sell my laptop and go with a 2018 Mini desktop and an iPad pro. I have one use case that requires being able to have editable files ON the device, not somewhere in the cloud. These are files off the web (dropbox). I can, I believe, also use the iPad Pro as a screen for the Mini in a fairly portable scenario.

I went all iPad Pro a few months back. I have my MacBook Air to my son to make myself to that way. I still have my iMac for home but I've totally switched for business and haven't missed a beat.
I use One Drive for storage and Office 365 for documents. With the new OS coming out will be even better.
why not waiting for the official ipados to install in your old ipad pro and decide from there? If you keep using your macbook pro by then, then there is no point. unless you just want the new design...
I am truly iPad and iPhone only. No back-up laptop or iMac at all. It’s fine for the most part. Pages, spreadsheets, browsing, music production and movies are my main uses. There’s two times that I wish I had a desktop: when mobile safari isn’t supported and to back up my music and devices to iTunes. Outside of that I’m content with what I have. 
I have a 2014 MBA but I don’t use it at all anymore. I could easily go without a computer when this one kicks the bucket. My iPhone XS Max and iPads (mini and pro) more than meet my computing needs.
I would like something like the note 9 though, as it has Dex which basically allows you to use your phone as a desktop computer. For someone like me with minimal computing needs that’s a perfect set up, if I wanted a more traditional computer experience without actually owning a real computer.

With iOS 13 I think the iPad easily can be your daily driver, but if you use external hard drives a lot, you might need to know that the beta is very unstable around that.
I’ve been all iPad since the first gen iPad Pro. Now with iPadOS, it pushes it further with external HDD support, USB-C…etc. the only pieces missing is Adobe Photoshop, X-code, FinalCut.

Out of curiosity, is the iPad a good device for music production? I mean I know a few programs for macOS, but I barely know software for music creation/production on iPad.
