I didn't know that, it's nice to know that the 12.9" 2nd gen is lighter it might make it easier to hold.

Which is actually interesting. Because the batteries are larger in the second generation 12.9 iPad Pro. So somehow Apple made it lighter over the first generation 12.9 iPad.

The first Gen 12.9 iPad. Has a 38.8 Wh battery versus a 41 Wh battery in the second generation 12.9 iPad.

And yet the battery life is still 10 hours? it's great that they have reduced the weight on the bigger 12.9" tho.

Correct. Apple has it rated as such.
  • Built-in 41.0-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery
  • Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‑Fi, watching video, or listening to music

That's the advertised mixed use. Apple probably just keeps it at 10 hours in order to temper expectations.

I was getting ~16 hours onscreen time on the iPad 4 vs ~12 hours iPad Air vs ~10 hours iPad Pro 9.7 with the same usage/tasks (low brightness on all). If Apple had advertised longer battery life for the iPad 4 then battery life on the newer, thinner models aren't going to look as good.

Fair point, they have stayed with 10 hours for a while i think they seem to be happy with it, i believe the new MacBook Pro's get around about the same so it seems they are trying to bring them all in line.

Just picked up the new 12.9 iPP yesterday..... been holding out for the longest.

And I must say ProMotion is awesome.. the screen is awesome, since these 12.9 models are hard to find... I had to settle for going with the 512gb model although I think it’s overkill for me. I went ahead and took the plunge.

I can sense the A10x speed when using it compared to the original, definitely happy with the purchase.

Funny you say that, most of the benchmarks don't say you can see that much of a difference compared to the A9 chip.

I'm surprised you were even able to find the 512 GB model. In my Area, the 512 (Both LTE and Wifi) are completely sold out and have been for weeks. I have found a few 64 GB models, but nothing even close to the 512 GB model.

Perhaps, it’s the ProMotion that I’m noticing. But it’s definitely snappy from opening and closing apps to browsing the web compared to the original.

The single core geek bench went from ~3100 to 3900. Not that benchmarks necessarily translate to real world performance but that's a significant difference on paper.

Had gen 1 a few months sold got a 9.7 pro and now have gen 2 12.9]

With improved cameras, being lighter, TT and P3 screen , TruMotion now, I feel its worth it

Oh and gen2 Touch ID

I just got the 10.5" Pro LTE yesterday to use while traveling. I'm ruined by the Promotion so I ordered the 2nd gen 12.9" today LOL. I'm coming from 128GB 1st gen to a 64GB 2nd gen. I'm hoping to sell my 1st gen for $600 which would mean the upgrade cost me $200.

I’m in the process of trying to sell my 1st gen... for 700, I have a 256gb LTE model...

I believe you're right. iPad 4's battery seemed to last forever!

I only got the 2nd gen Pro because my first one crapped out on me. If it didn't, I would have stuck with that for at least a couple more years. Even getting the new one and excitedly using the new features, I just don't feel like there's enough value in going from one gen to the next. Most of the features aren't must haves to me. They're just "that'll be cool to have whenever I do finally upgrade" features
