iPhone 8/Plus Anyone keeping their iPhone 8/8+ this year and not upgrading?

This year marks the first year ever I won't be upgrading to the new model. My iPhone 8 Plus is completely paid off, and Apple just replaced the screen for me yesterday with a brand new display. I factory reset my phone yesterday and put it in a brand new case. Almost feels like a new phone. I know the XS and XS Max are superior products, I just can't justify the cost of upgrading to them right now. Also in a way, I think the 8 Plus stands up to the XR in some aspects, such as having a true 1080 display which I mainly use for full HD video and such. I think next year I could make a case for whatever Apple releases, but for now this phone really is a workhorse and just does everything right. Plus, it feels kind of cool to have the last generation model of their 6/6+ design they released in 2014.

Anyone else doing this?

Many people. I tried to upgrade to the max, but I got bad headaches from it. I went from a space gray 8+ to a product red 8+ and feel very pleased. The only thing I really miss from the max is the 6.5” screen. If the 8+ had the same size screen in 1080p lcd I would be thrilled. Camera upgrades don’t really get me too excited.

I purchased my 8 last year and I will not be upgrading. My 8 covers all my needs, and it runs well on iOS 12. My phone is used mostly for calls, FaceTime with the kids, text, and maps. Occasionally I use the browser to look up something and I rarely use the camera. I'll save my money and upgrade when or if it becomes necessary.
 
At this point I am still leaning towards keeping my 8+. It has few scratches on the screen, but when I did put on screen protector, they got covered up, so all good there. Xs Max has gorgeous display and that would be my only reason to upgrade to it. However connectivity issues mentioned on the forum gave me a pause. I am going to wait and see if the issue is resolved via software. There is also XR, but I have to wait and see how it looks in person. Otherwise I am not really gaining anything from moving to new phone from 8+. It still runs great, display is great and speed wise it is not that far off from Xs Max.
 
Staying on the 7 plus

It’s fast on iOS 12 and does everything an Xs can do. Sure the camera might not be as great but the difference is negligible to me.

I’ll buy a used Xs Max next year for cheap.

Trying to not upgrade but not sure how long I can hold out :). Love the look of the XS Max. I'm on a 7 plus (that I love) but do like the idea of getting more real estate and less bezels.
 
Keeping my iPhone 8. First time I will keep my phone until it breaks or a decent deal becomes available. It is paid off and does pretty much the same with iOS 12 except for the obvious (camera, FaceID, etc.)

Staying on my 7, which is a replacement from Apple a few months ago so it still is basically as good as new. With how well iOS 12 runs on my old 6S, I could even use that as a daily driver without any problems.
 
am going too be staying on the iphone 8 + tell 2019 or 2020 and then upgrade

Ditto and not sure I'll even get the XS max next year - I'll see. Those that did will happy no doubt.
 
I really liked my 8 plus but am on the upgrade program and got a Xs Max. I would not go back live the Max.

This lol. There is no major breakthrough in difference between the 6S and XS. The removal of the fingerprint scanner and headphone jack killed it for me. I will try to stay on the 6s as long as i can and keep saving my money. I already recently got the battery replaced and should last me another 2 solid years.
 
I did love the Max until the migraines set in. I have a Product Red 8 Plus I bought to stay with me for the long haul, but I will try the Xr to get the camera improvements. My 8 Plus will still be the device I read my ebooks on and watch movies and videos on when I’m at home on WiFi.

The Xr will be my phone/text and on-the-go device.

I’ve not been able to look at the OLED panel on my S9+ since my migraines were triggered into a flareup again. So I have to take it day by day now. For now I’m exclusively on my 8 Plus.

It’s a great phone, but honestly if my nervous system could have endured, I preferred my Max. It was a beauty and was upgraded in all the right ways and I miss it.

I would disagree with you, especially considering the augmented reality capabilities, Face ID alone is a ‘game changer’ in the biometric security revolution, and the TrueDepth Camera is setting the groundwork now for what it will be able to incorporate in the future. Maybe those are features that are worth anything to you, but you can’t say those are not break through when compared to the 6S. Otherwise, what do you consider to be ‘breakthrough’ technology?

Im paying 64$/month for my iphone 8 plus with 64gb storage and 20gb data... doing the math

At market value the phone was 1229$ So over 2 years im paying up to 307 only for the carrier usage which is dirt cheap. 1536$/2 year with the phone n data plan.

An iphone xs/max here at 256gb is nearly 1879-2049$ and that doesnt include the data plan even so that fee goes up higher. Which is why i disnt upgrade due to the amazing offer. Had the 8 plus be a regular deal (85/95$/mth) i may have one uped it. But given phones dont drastically change over the yearly upgrades i find it safe jus to keep the phone you have for two years. And consider if the later ones are needed.

The only thing i see the xs and xs max over the 8 plus better is the smart hdr in that alone

But because im a dedicated photographer (i own a dslr) the yearly upgrade isnt necessary for another 2k... most people however might see a benefit as the phone is the only capable camera they carry around alot
 
I bought the 8 on launch day last year and was happy with it until all the fuss of the new phones came around this year.

I caved and bought myself an XS and I'm very happy with it; screen is great, it's super quick and FaceID works well 99% of the time.
