Why the extreme excitement for iOS 12? It isn't going to perform as well as iOS 10 did on your 10.5 iPP.

iOS 11 is this generation's iOS 7. As bad as 11 is (and it is), 7 was worse. Years later, there are issues that were introduced in 7 that remain unresolved in 11.
iOS 11 is hardly this generations ios 7. Much more akin to iOS 8

I recently updated and noticed choppier animations when opening and closing apps. Also the drag-and-drop gesture gets in the way of normal operation sometimes, e.g. in photos, goodnotes and numbers you may want to (respectively) scroll, move a selection or input a number and instead you accidentally lift something off the page as though you want to drag-and-drop it. These things are pretty minor, though.

I finally updated my iPad Air2 three days ago. So far so good. No problems, If anything it seems faster.

Wish I had kept my Pro at 10.3 honestly could’ve gone without iOS 11 with how buggy it’s been compared to iOS 10.

iOS 11 was a great update for my iPad Pro. Brought some great features too. It was my iPhone 7+ that could've done without it...

If you feel differently, I certainly won't argue. But you didn't offer any reasons for the "extreme excitement" for iOS 12. What do you think iOS 12 will bring that generates such anticipation?

iOS 12 is rumoured to focus on quashing bugs and improving performance and stability.

Then again, they said the same thing for iOS 9 and I haven’t noticed anything significant from it.

I think iOS 9 didn't do good job with optimization and Apple still throw bunch of new features with iOS 9. I don't mind if the new OS has zero new features, but it is optimized for performance and stability.

Apple really need focus on improving performance and stability for their mobile OS.

I ran the iOS 9 public beta on my 5s and I noticed that it ran super smooth, but battery also drained super fast and I was constantly having to recharge my phone multiple times throughout the day. Then came the final version and the smoothness was clearly dialled back. I do think that Apple was on to something, but just could not work about the problem of poor battery life.

I've kept my 9.7 Pro at 10.3.3 because of all the battery life horrors I've heard. I am super tempted to update only because doing so will let me use the latest version of Procreate, which I can't now.

I initially had battery drain on my iPhone 7 with the earlier versions of 11. It seems to have resolved now on 11.2.5.
I went straight to 11.2.5 on my iPad Air 2 and no battery issues that I can tell.

I initially held off upgrading both my 10.5 and my 12.9, but then I upgraded my 12.9 from 10.3.3 to 11.2.5 and found it to be great and even no difference in battery life. So after a few weeks, I upgraded my 10.5, also from 10.3.3 to 11.2.5 and I have also had zero problems and have fantastic battery life on it also.

Great thank you :)
Well, I finally got around to putting iOS 10.3.3 on my daughter’s iPad “4”. My one-phrase opinion is “not that bad”. I know that isn’t necessarily a glowing review, but in her case, the added iMessage features far outweigh the slightly noticeable lag added to almost everything the iPad does.

Yes, it is true, there is (more) lag now; however, I don’t want to exaggerate the issue. It really is “not that bad”. If it were my only iDevice, I probably wouldn’t be bothered much at all. Only in comparison to my X and iPP 1G does it actually seem slow.

As i mentioned, I had the other factor of getting my (younger) daughter to be (close to) equal with her older sister, regarding iOS versions. My plan was somewhat foiled, when my older daughter’s iPad mini 2 “updated itself” to iOS 11.2.6 recently. All in all, I do not regret doing the update on the iPad “4”.

My 10.5 is still at 10.3.3. I hung off from going to IOS 11 after people complained of battery drain.

This morning i thought the problems should be sorted out by now, so i nearly pressed the button so to speak.(Was going to do a full restore via iTunes). I thought maybe i should check these forums first though. So glad i did, as there still seems to be a lot of complaints. My battery life is awesome on 10.3.3 so i am not going to risk it lol.

Thank You to all that have posted in this thread.

@Doomoo Well, at any rate, iOS 11.3 should be right around the corner with more fixes.

Yeah i will wait and see what people have to say first. To be honest i feel bad waiting to hear about other people's bad experiences first, but i guess that is part of the reasons forums exist lol.

unless you have an important reason to upgrade, i suggest keeping it at ios 10. it’s a one-way street and you can’t go back. My ipad mini 4 running ios 10 feels just as if not more responsive than my 1st gen 12.9 ipad pro on ios 11. this is just my personal experience so take it for what it’s worth.

I've been really annoyed by the changes drag-and-drop makes in goodnotes and sometimes clicking links in a browser. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable this new feature?

What if one of your favorite newest apps require iOS 11 ?

The problem I find with this - being in the same situation with a 9.7 Pro on iOS 9 - is that if you eventually stop using the app, you essentially updated for nothing, and the performance you lose is unrecoverable. You might want/need the app now, but later? Who knows if you'll continue to use it, and if you do, for how long? I've really wanted some apps that I've long stopped using.

this is the example of a post for which i wish we could have multiple up-votes. :)

I've kept 2017 iPad 9.7" at iOS 10.3, never needed the new features, I only use it for occasional YouTube, Twitch and web browsing on it. :p
