I treat my iPhone like it's gold with a hard case which goes into a leather case pouch and I STILL have scratches on the screen (this scratch happened the 5 days I didn't have my screen protector on.)

I feel screen protectors are 1. Ugly, 2. REALLY lower the resolution.

Just wondering how many people have scratches.

I do the same, except that I do have a screen protector on the screen.

I don't think the protector is ugly, or lowers the resolution at all.

Also at least I won't have scratches on my screen which would really make the screen Ugly.... o_O

I've had mine since launch and I've got a single shallow scratch, only visible in the right light. I haven't really been babying my phone, either.

I hate screen protectors and been using mine naked. Until I found a scratch on the backside....so I applied a cheap one on the back and left the screen naked.

1. Sure, if you apply them incorrectly.
2. Not sure how a protector lowers the resolution of the screen...?

I think he means clarity, not resolution.
I had a PowerSupport crystal on mine - while it feels somewhat different than the bare screen, I couldn't see any reduction in clarity at all. None. But I grew tired of wiping fingerprints and smudges, so I've got a PS antiglare HD on it. Does cause some grain, but only a little and for me wasn't hard to get used to, but man does it cut down on smears and prints.

I use a screen protector and its 1. Not ugly and 2. It does not affect the resolution. In fact I've never heard such a complaint.

I've been using Ghost Armor and to be perfectly honest, you don't even notice its there. When owned a 3Gs, I was surprised at how the olephobic coating wore off. It made the phone look worse. I alway use a case with my phone but the screen protector ensures that the coating is intact and I incur no scratches.

To be honest, I generally don't see threads here about people complaining about scratches who have screen protector on. While there are many folks that will argue tooth and nail that its not needed. This thread like the others are a testament to its need.

Mine is totally wrapped in Ghost Armor. The phone (and previous) were naked before that. They always had their own pocket to live in. I just had to be careful not to drop them or where I set them down and they were totally scratch free. With the Ghost Armor I worry less about setting it down.

Small particles of dust, dirt, sand can build up on your pockets and rub against your phone. I always keep my phone in right side pocket. No change or keys in that pocket.

My screen is perfect. I just recently put a screen protector last week. More so out of fear of what might happen. I baby my phone and it looks like it.

Since day 1, I have not had a screen protector on my phone, and I have yet to have any scratches on the phone. I don't know if it makes a difference, but my phone is cleaned with a microfiber cloth before I go to bed each night. Also, when I'm not using my phone, it's either in my coat or jeans pocket.

Maybe you haven't tried a high quality screen protector? A power support crystal screen protector would be almost invisible and really not affect screen quality. The matte ones of course ruin the beautiful display, making it look blurry, and some lower quality ones have weird coloring effects. Also, it makes a huge difference if you don't apply it properly and end up with bubbles under it -- ugly!

Do they sell those ones at Apple? Those arent in the Apple store. on its website

Im surprised you guys havent heard of screen protectors that mess up the clarity/retina display of the phone. Just look up the reviews of the anti glare one in the apple store.

I cant possibly treat my phone better unless i wrap it in silk and buy its own carriage for it.

I use a screen protector from day one and no scratches are to be seen, even if I tilt the phone to see better with light...

I prefer the feel of the protector compared to the glass and even if the screen looses a (very little) bit of resolution, it's not a big deal ...

The best part is that there are no more finger smudges on the screen and I don't have to wipe it every other second..! :D

It doesn't scratch easily, or at least mine hasn't. 0 scratches that I can see...

I've never had a scratch on an iPhone screen. And the iPhone 4's seems the most durable to me, so far. I've had it since launch, and I keep it in my pocket, when I'm not using it.. Nothing else goes into that pocket.

I'd never use a screen protector, either. My friend has one on his and it takes away from the look and feel.

scratches easily? lol
I have mine since August, put in my pocket's, dropped it twice to the floor and hasn't a single scratch in the front or back :)

I know nothing about scratch easily. I have always had a incase snap on my 4. I've had two 4's thus far and I've had dirt I'm sure behind the glass against the case and it's dropped a few times so I'm sure it should have scratched. But it didn't, it surprised me. Now a couple times a week I'll pop my case off and clean the inside with a microfiber cloth and the back glass. Not a scratch.

Yet scratches also can happen so easily like setting it down on something. Sand etc etc, that's the main reason why I got the incase snap. Thin, yes provide the small amount of protection I need.

I treat my iPhone like a phone and it has zero scratches on the front, the back side has a couple of light scratches though, nothing major :)

I don't have an iPhone 4, but I assume the glass, if not better, is the same as the other iPhones and iPod Touches. The glass isn't that easy to scratch if you are careful with your phone. Right now I use a screen protector on my 3GS (just because) but with my next iPhone, I probably wont use one. I don't see the need. Either the phone is in my pocket, or in my house. I think I'll be fine. None of my friends use screen protectors either and their phones seem fine. At least fine enough for me.

I think the cheap screen protectors sold in Apple/AT&T/VZW stores are pretty crappy, and make the screen look worse (in terms of smudges and fingerprints and resolution). I had one of the cheaper ones (3 pack for 15 buck), but I peeled it off a couple days later. I bought a bestskinsever (bestskinsever.com) skin and I think its amazing. It gives it a little bit of a grip, but its still smooth, and its scratch protectant. Plus, it doesn't show fingerprints as much, and most times, I forget its even there.

Folks claim that the iphone has a really scratch-resistant screen. But I've seen enough reports of scratches to know I'd rather have a barely-there screen protector than permanent scratches...

I use the cheap protectors from Dealextreme and the clarity is excellent. When you wear it out just replace it and you'll get the clarity back.

Alright, I can kind of feel it with my nail but my nails arent very long.

I believe most of you except the guys who say they drop there phone and found there cats walk on them with no scratches haha

Just gonna get a screen protector at apple and hopefully they install for me because they have done so in the past.

Have been using my iPhone entire naked since I got it on VZW iPhone launch shipment date... have dropped it 2 times (1 being hard) and no scratches or dents or anything :)

Constantly spending money on screen protectors is the biggest waste of money. Most people upgrade almost every year, and for the ones who don't... You probably spend more money on actual screen protectors than it would cost for you to replace the screen.

I buy 10 for 1$ free shipping usually lol.

how could you drop your phone 2 times and not have a scratch? take a picture under direct light slanting the phone to prove that haha.

just wanted to add I took the same care with my 3G and 3GS and still have them with no scratches....Looked on google and there are 500 articles about how easily the screen scratches

Edit-for the smartasses (500 is an expression)
