I recently dropped my 6S in the river and am debating getting a 7/8 or another 6S. My primary concern is keeping my jailbreak, and I've heard a Jailbreak has recently been released for the current iOS but I'm not sure if I want to give up the old style home button. Does anyone who has made this transition regret it or find it hard to adjust? Thanks!

Nope. Don’t miss it at all and never have. Hate it on my iPad Pro. I’ve had the 7 plus and the 8 plus. Have the X now. No home button at all is so much better.

I used a 7+ for a year, and once I got used to the new style of home button I didn't really have a preference.

I have heard from people who love it and also from people who hate it. Seems to be a personal preference thing, but I'm sure you'll get used to it over time.

I have the 7. Came from a 5. And in use I really see no observable difference in the home button. Essentially feels the same when used. Works just as well. And adds fingerprint unlock if you want it.

I mean the 6s was a great home button. You get used to the others without issue. I wish gestures from the X came to previous models.

Had the 7 Plus, did not miss the old mechanical button at all.

Since getting the X, I don't even miss having a home button. :)

I use a 6S daily for work and a X for personal use so I'm pretty much more accustomed to the mechanical home button but every time I pick up the wife's 7 I'm reminded how much nicer the haptic non-button feels.

Have a 6S now, have tried the 8 and had the 7 twice. And whilst it’s different having a solid button, you just get used to it and it’s fine.

The main reason to stay with a 6S is for the traditional headphone jack. You also save a $100 compared to a 7.
But the 7 is water resistant, which may have survived the river dunking.

It’s interesting

Why'd you go back to a 6S?

I feel like I'm in the minority but I prefer the newer not-really-a-button home button. I wish that my iPad had it too!

I actually really liked the Haptic home button for the iPhone 7 when it launched. I think the responses are quicker when invoking an action on the iPhone and I like the responsiveness from the haptic engine.

Well the 7 I don’t know, didn’t feel as well built, the 8 is an awesome phone and is a definite improvement, trouble is we had the X too and next to that it just didn’t feel different enough for me..

But this year I need a new one and need to see what happens. I may end up with a 256GB 8, or an X, or a 9 but I think that may be too big and I need 3D Touch which the cheaper 6.1” iPhone may lack.
It’s an interesting time for me an iphones. But not long now till I know which way I’ll go :)

So basically I returned my 8 for a full refund and kept my 6S, and I’ve had the money patiently waiting for this September.

I just had this talk with a friend. It's something satisfying using the mechanical button, but after using the new design, the older one feels just that, old. But I kinda miss it, but wouldn't want it on my 8plus.

The only weird thing about the home button on the 7 is when the battery is dead or the phone is powered off. You press it, and you just feel nothing. No click. But when the phone is on, it feels so much like you're clicking an actual button. It's just weird.

This exact part weirds me out and drives me crazy too for a moment.

Personally I much prefer it to a mechanical button. It’s a surreal moment when you press it with the phone switched off and realise it’s not actually a button. I’ve always had it on the highest intensity haptic feedback.

I’m the same. Haptic feedback works for me on 3. I do find it superior to the mechanical button the OP is asking about. I’ll be keeping an 8+ as long as possible. Just can’t get with the Face ID scene yet. Then again, I’ve always been know as a “button pusher.” ;)

How do you think you're in the minority? Almost everyone in this thread has said they prefer the new style.

Once you use the new one you'll never want to use the old one. Mine always got all gunked up and would stick and make weird clicks etc. None of that on the new button that isn't a button.

I miss mine on a regular basis. The click it made from the iPhone 6 on was just so satisfying. The new button just doesn't have the same feedback sometimes. When it works though, it does really feel like a button (just not a great one).
