Over the last year (I was an early/pre order for the X), I've really grown to appreciate the size (relative to the display/rez/PPI). When you're dealing with handheld (and "pocketed") devices, it really is a game of mm, and that smaller FF (vs. a Plus) has made all the difference. So I guess what I'm saying, is with the larger X being roughly the same size as a current Plus model, I _think_ I'm an XS buyer - now that being said, an upgrade over the current model would have to have something really compelling, and not just FID improvement since my experience with it has been exceptional.

Like someone pointed out, S "tocks" are usually refinements, so if I decide to stick with the smaller X either sum of the improvements would have to be pretty substantial, or they'd have to do more than just refine, and introduce some new major feature.

I just continue to become more and more impressed with the X as time goes on. And with iOS 12 releasing this month I’m excited as I feel it will be just about perfect then.

I don’t have a huge desire to upgrade to the XS from the rumors discovered so far. And the max is only 5.5” when watching 16:9 videos and the Plus videos aren’t that much bigger than the 5” videos on the X. What I’m saying is the iPhone X is the perfect smartphone for me and I’m sad they are going to be killing it off this year but I understand why.

16:9 videos are way bigger in current Plus models (5.5”) models than X models, I thought there would be no more doubts with that...

Last year, I returned one iphone X 24h after buying it mainly because of the differences in screen size while displaying 16:9 videos between it and my old 7 Plus.

For this purpose (watch 16:9 video), the screen size of iphone X it’s the same of iphone 6/7/8 and screen size of iphone X Max/plus will be the same of current plus versions.

So go for the Max/Plus always!!

I was saying that 16:9 videos are going to be the exact same as the current Plus models. The X has a 5” diagonal which is 13% more display area than the 8.

I will even without significant upgrades is they offer some type of IUP special like waived payments. All of us on any type of payment plan will have to come up with $100 to $200 to upgrade early.

I don't want to and am currently not planning on it. I have always gone 2 years between upgrading phones even though contracts no longer apply to me. The X serves my needs just fine.

HOWEVER

As someone who was previously on the "S" cycle phones (3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S) until last year was a curveball, I always appreciated the internal/performance improvements they had to offer. Now, I of course have no idea what Apple has in store for the XS, but I remember what a jump the 5S was from the 5 (64 bit A7/M7, introduced Touch ID) and what a jump the 6S was from the 6 (A9 substantially more powerful than A8, second gen Touch ID, 3D Touch, 2 GB RAM). Even though the look/design remained largely unchanged from a physical standpoint, the technological updates put those S phones well ahead of their predecessors from a performance standpoint.

My point being, although I clearly don't know what those improvements could/might be, but if the jump from the X to the XS is as substantial as the previous jumps from 5 to 5S and 6 to 6S, then I could be swayed. Hoping that doesn't happen though because I do not want to upgrade already!

After the 6s performance wise is negligible in everyday tasks. There won’t be a 5-5s 6-6s feel in performance anymore. Everything is just too good now

X to XS for me. Being on IUP makes it a no brainer, especially if the rumoured price drop is true (in the UK at least). get the improved version of my current phone and pay less per month.. happy days!

Happy days are phone payments for the rest of your life? Interesting

Yeah, think I’m sticking with my X. Haven’t heard or seen anything in leaks or rumors that would induce me to switch. My X is plenty fast and other than Twitter or FB, I don’t really consume a lot of content on my phone. I mostly use my iPad and Apple Watch so if there are any new iterations of those, I’m all in.

Is it a safe bet you’ll be able to use your current case/s on the new phone? I’ve got cases for the X I’d returned.

I’m willing to give the XS a try. It would be nice if I could use the cases I already own. I’ve looked around for info but I suppose it’s all a guess until the announcement.

where will the new iPhone XS be when they build out the 5g network in your area?

As that isn’t likely for many years yet (Canary Islands … 2025?), it isn’t something I’m bothered about.

I will be upgrading my X to an Xs Plus (please don't name it the Max) and Looking forward tot eh bigger display :)

Yep. Just sold my X today, so I'm all set for the XS. I really like the X size, and this is after 3 straight years of 6 Plus/6s Plus/7 Plus.

I'll mostly appreciate the camera upgrade. Certainly the X still feels super quick, and I have no issues with the battery, etc. I might even end up going down from 256GB to 64GB. I never even got above 40GB of used storage on the X, plus I now pay for the 200GB iCloud storage.

pretty much certain that the X and XS will be the same size so you're current X cases will be fine on the XS

Same here. I mentioned before another thread, I think sometimes you have these ‘insiders or leakers’ that are trying to grasp the media attention by throwing out these ridiculous names. The same thing happened with the iPhone 7 years back days before the keynote, you had these Ludacris rumors that were surfacing that ended up not being true. The ‘Max’ moniker just does not sound like Apples marketing department would be this uncreative.

agreed...it really does not sound like something Apple would use in a product name :)
