No issues here... It's remarkably unremarkable on my Xr.

There was one strange issue I encountered yesterday, after almost one day on iOS17.

When I had incoming calls, I pressed the center button my Lightning Earpods to answer. Each time, it hung up on the caller. This happened twice before I decided to use the screen slider to answer. Never seen this before. I powered off and on the phone and unplugged/replugged the lightning headset... So far, I haven't seen this behavior occur again (Pressing center button now answers calls like it should). No idea WTF happened. This headset is only 1 week old though... So could it have been a glitch in the headset? No idea...

Now to see what 17.0.1 will bring. lol.

As per update , we assume it call last one day heavy usage with 87% battery life . Maybe next year iphone 16 out , we will buy iphone 15 . Only maybe if out we will buy apple watch 9 or 8 instead .

My wife has an XR. On initial release of iOS 17, her phone ran hot and the battery drained very quickly through regular usage.
Runs fine now, however, after the subsequent point releases.

I very recently upgraded to IOS17, like two days ago! Too soon to notice any battery life issues. But, for some strange reason after updating the Home app, my HomePod mini went offline. The Home app showed it was “configuring”, but after five hours I unplugged the Mini and reinstalled it. All is good now. The predictive text is a bit overwhelming. I guess it’s more accurate. I’m getting used to it slowly. Watching several YouTube videos to understand nuances in 17. But, surprisingly, not any major glitches on my XR. Looks like I’m going to hold out on buying a new iPhone at least one more year!

It’s a little laggy at moments, but still very usable. 🤷 Not bad for a 5 year old model.
Laggy in what way? Keyboard lag? App slowness? Lag in animations? This is sad to hear honestly, the Xʀ on iOS 12 is perfect.

All of the above.

12? Wow. Do you not use many different third party apps? I would think most would refuse to install or run (or be so old of versions that causes issues with the apps Internet hosted backends).

I updated my iPhone Xr to iOS17 (I think it was a point release) about a month ago because I got an Apple Watch and wanted to be on the latest version for that. I was on 13(?) before - did not like 17 at first and got used to it. I did not notice any appreciable difference in battery life- I was mostly annoyed by the changes to Safari and photos.
Then last week I updated to iOS 17.1.2 - the latest version. My husband had gotten a new phone and once he moved to it, we have had issues with Find My. We can both see our kids, but he could not see my device or me in People. We both updated to 17.1.2 (he was on an earlier version of 17, but not the same as mine) We tried to reset Location Share again and then I couldn't see him. We tried again and now I can see him (in People list) and his device with the location and he can see me listed twice in his People list but both say "Location can't be found". wtf
Anyway, the first few days of 17.1.2 I had a huge battery drain - I thought maybe I'd left my hotspot on- but no. I ended up rebooting my phone and I think it's under control now. Lasy night, I had my phone at 100% at bedtime and with no activity from midnight to 6 am, it went from 100% to 95%. Then after having my screen on for a full hour and a half over the next couple of hours, it went to low 80's. This was using Microsoft Teams (for work). So not too bad, I guess.
As far as apps, I've noticed weirdness. I mostly use Safari, Teams, Messages, and then things like Photos, Find My, Snapchat, Facebook, The Weather Channel, My Verizon, various restaurant/shopping apps. Most of the non-apple apps have had weird blank screens, lagging, funky behavior. Even Safari has been flukey. I'm a tech geek (work in IT) so I go by the old "reboot if it's not working, unless you think you have a virus", so I rebooted and I'm still assessing whether that weird behavior is gone now.

All third-party apps I use are fully compatible (by this I mean, they have older versions which are fully compatible).

This issue is wildly overstated, the vast majority of apps have older versions that work flawlessly.
