I don't know what people are talking about, but CivIV runs great on my SR MacBook (X3100). Maybe its the 4GB of RAM, or the drivers I have for the X3100, but through bootcamp I'm able to play with almost all maxed settings on huge maps in epic games with very little lag.

I haven't really had issues with games on my Macbook yet, so I'd go for any of the Civs.

Oh, I've heard Civ IV runs great on Windows - I was really asking about the Mac port. I take it you don't play that? If your MacBook ran the Mac version OK, I'm sure my iMac would...

I just found my old Civ I MD-DOS floppies. I had half a notion to find a machine to try it out on...

I mostly play Alien Crossfire. I have Civ III for PC, but have resisted the temptation to take over my wife's PC for a few weeks.

I find buying even old games for the Mac to be expensive as the prices never seem to go down.

I'd imagine for most non-heavy 3D games they would run fine without a lot of VRAM. If you have a lot of system RAM it would probably run well.
