Still have two fully functional 7 Plus in our family. Working grea, good screen and design. Too large for my taste but that’s another discussion (thread).

I just replaced the battery in mine today at The Apple Store. The lady that helped me out said that there was a chef that replaced the battery in his last week. The iPhone 7 Plus normally sits on my desk and displays the weather 24 hours a day. It is also my backup phone. My main phone is the iPhone 13 mini so I have a small phone that I take around with me, particularly for running; and a large phone when I want a larger display.

I originally bought the iPhone 13 mini because phone reception declined. I think that this was due to my carrier dropping 3G and adding 5G. It pushed everyone on 3G/4G phones onto 4G. Going to 5G solved my issue with calls not connecting or dropping but I used the iPhone 7 Plus recently and it seems fine now. I'd guess that a lot of people have upgraded to 5G phones over the past 3.5 years.

Nothing wrong with the 7 Plus for casual use.

My mom uses this phone and she complains all the time about apps not being updated or how she wants wallpapers that change like the newer iphones.

Isn't it rather odd that someone who's upset that they aren't getting app updates would still be using a 10 year old phone? That's like driving a 10 year old car and being upset it doesn't have Bluetooth.

I'd be curious to know what apps she's using that don't get updates, because 99% of the apps in the App Store support iOS 15. Twitter, Facebook and Instagram all support iOS 15 with updates. Others like DoorDash, Uber and Lyft provide the last compatible version, and they work fine. Even TikTok only requires iOS 12!

One I know off hand is the capital one app, if you try to open it , you get get a message saying it's no longer support on the ios version shes on. Trying to explain it is more than you think lol.

The latest version of Garmin Connect doesn't run on the iPhone 7 Plus.

I actually consider this a benefit as I hate the new version so I just use the old version on the old phone.

My wife forgot her iPhone on the a short trip we were taking so I just handed her my iPhone 7 Plus so she had a phone handy. The rest of us just had to remember to call my other number if they needed to reach her.

He means that the Garmin can still connect to the phone using an older version of the app. This is similar to TikTok, Instagram, and other apps that continue to function on iOS 12. While they aren’t the latest versions, they remain usable. I have both a 6S and an OGSE, and since they’re stuck on iOS 15, like the iPhone 7, they still have access to most of the apps they’ve always used. The main exceptions now are certain banking and trading apps, as Apple no longer provides security updates for the system.

It's funny when I go and have to use her phone I kinda forget how to do different actions like the pull down menu for quick settings.

I wish I were. I had an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 10, and it came with a broken camera and glitched software which a full DFU restore couldn’t fix.

It was my first experience with a good battery life iPhone and a larger screen, but I couldn’t return it or exchange it because of specific circumstances so I gave it to a family member who didn’t care about those issues and went back to my 6s on iOS 9.

I traded it in for the iPhone Xʀ two years later but I wish I could’ve used it more and I wish I had a better experience with it.

I recall how much I was looking forward to it in the days prior to getting it due to the camera and battery life. Sadly, it couldn’t be the case.

It’s the only iPhone I ever sold. All the rest I either kept or gave them to my family. I’ll go a little further: it’s the only iOS device I’ve ever sold.

Wait. The wallpapers can change? Now I have a reason to upgrade NOW!!!

UPDATE: The Lightning jack on my iPhone 7 is getting very flaky - when plugged in the battery doesn't always charge. To get the battery to charge you have to jiggle the connection just right and then do not touch the iPhone during the night to prevent interruption of charging.

Technically, I should be able to fix this provided I can get the parts from iFixit - but, I've already replaced the battery on this iPhone 7 Plus. I'd be pushing my luck if attempted another repair.

This might be the point of no return.
