after updating to itunes 8 my 2.0 hacked iphone 3g still connects to itunes, and backsup and whatnot.

after doing this, i realized you were asking if you can restore from a jailbroken firmware (i think thats what you were asking)
:apple:

Works fine with iTunes, but I think that 2.1 will deactivate and relock phones until a new pwnagetool is released.

Always does :) At least at this point Apple seems to not care about jailbreaking. The 3G hasnt been cracked yet other than a sim card.

The 3G has been cracked/unlocked. ;)

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the iPhone 3G has not yet been unlocked without the sim card trick. I think you'll find that if it has, then the iPhone Dev Team would seriously know about it!

They are still searching for an unlock for the iPhone 3G.

I just restored my Jailbroken phone on iTunes 8 as im going to take it in tomorrow for light leaks/hardware problems. It got stuck on the boot loading screen. I restored again and it recognizes the ipod as working fine when plugged in, but is still stuck on the boot loading screen. I'm going to set up as new iPhone and hopefully they will give me a new iPhone and I can restore to my old settings. If I can't, then I will have some big problems.

This might end the pwning process for a while... Good thing 2.1 sucks and I dont care about upgrading it... unless it increases battery life 10 fold.

I restored my 3G on iTunes 8 it worked just fine. I will leave it alone and upgrade to 2.1 on Friday.

Did you restore it as a New iPhone or with your old backup?
Think im just gonna go into the store and say it got messed up, then this morning I didnt have time to do a full restore, only to factory settings. Its a hardware problem anyway.

Restored as new I didn't want any left over crap from the jailbreak when I upgrade later.

It does that under iTunes 8 as well. For me the point of restoring was getting rid of the jailbreak. It is late here so maybe I am not paying enough attention. The phone will function normally with iTunes 8. I intentionally wanted to get rid of all jailbreaking so that when 2.1 is launched on Friday my phone is clean.

I am not crazy enough to try to upgrade to 2.1 with a jailbroke phone.

Hold up pwnage tool isn't even working for me what did you guys do to pwn 2.0.2 cause I just get this

Did you download iphone firmware 2.0.2?
Did you download bootloader 3.9 and 4.6?

Didn't try iTunes 8 yet. Dunno about if it'll work with custom firmware

O I need boot loaders i saw something about that but ignored it. I'm dumb, thanks so much for the help.

Wait a sec I saw the link to download them its just one big code page nothing to download... what do I do?

I restored my iPhone 3G last night, specifically to remove the jailbreak. Since 3G and the App Store, the only hack I'd been using was Winterboard, anyway. Jailbreaking's advantages have all but evaporated for me and I don't think it's worth missing out on updates like the up-coming 2.1.
