Can anyone who has used both a Note 5 and iPhone 6S or 6S Plus comment on the fingerprint sensor on the Note 5 compared to iPhone?

So far my 6S plus has been virtually flawless at fingerprint recognition. I have only tried the Note 5 in stores and it seemed far better than the Note 4's but that isn't saying much. In my limited testing the Note 5 didn't feel as good as my iPhone 6S plus, fingerprint recognition wise. But that could have been my rushed testing.

I have both phones. I think the fingerprint scanners are equal in accuracy and speed. But personally I like the ergonomics of the round scanner. I think they are easier to use. I have the Nexus 6P as well. I like that one because it will unlock the phone without have to push the button. Just a scan and it unlocks the phone.

iPhone's scanner is the best by a mile. No denying that.

Of course there is... my edge plus unlocks straightaway every time, I cudnt Imagine it being any faster or more accurate. . So IN MY OPINION, the edge has the best scanner, there is simply no denying that.. see what I did there. ..

Never tried the iphone scanner but going from a Note 4 to a Note 5, the difference was amazing.
I actually use the scanner on the Note 5. It does have its little hiccups now and again but it's pretty fast.
Just be sure to use all finger allocations, even if it is for the same digit.
The scanner on the Note 4 was too inconsistent for everyday use.
Doesn't the iphone scanner allow you to unlock from a blank screen in one hit? If so, then, imo, it's utilisation is better.

I went from a iPhone 6 to Note 5. In my experience, Note 5 is equal or slightly better than iPhone 6. My friend's iPhone 6S seems like the best fingerprint scanner available. She does occasionally "complain" that it's too fast.

Played with a friend's iPhone 6S Plus. Seems like what the 6 Plus should've been. Good if you want something simple but restrictive. Note 5 is more powerful and versatile but some might not like nor want that. For example, when I arrive home I can have the Note 5 automatically push media to any device using Automagic automation and BubbleUPnP but most wouldn't know or care to do so and that's fine.

The automation is really cool. I use Tasker for that. Right now only for simple things such as switching wifi on and off but I will have a look at more recipes this holiday season.

I'm sorry, but I had the Note5 for a few weeks and the fingerprint scanner sucks compared to the 6s and Nexus 6P. It worked maybe 70% of the time, which was so unreliable I pretty much had to assume I'd need to scan my finger 1-2 times more for it to register. I tried removing my fingerprints a few times and re-adding them and it didn't help. I have a Nexus 6P now and it's much faster, and 99% reliable, just like the 6s.

this has been my experience as well. I think the shape of the scanner on the note 5 plays a part. It is not as forgiving as the round scanner on the nexus and the iPhone. Anyway, to me, other features of the note outweigh the lower strike rate of its scanner

I wasn't talking about your note 5, I was talking about my edge plus, which is flawless.. all personal opinions tho, I was trying to convey a certain sense of sarcasm in response to the posters comment that his opinion couldn't be denied by anyone. . Which I 100% did ..

The Note5 is exactly the same minus the curved display.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I have to say I think you had to press the Note 5 scanner button down to unlock? I can't fully remember though. But I find the 6S scanner to be blinding quick and incredibly reliable.

EDIT: I think I got it the wrong way round? You have to press the iPhone home button for the scanner to work, but by the time you have clicked that home button the scanner has read your fingerprint and given you access.
They both work very well to be honest, fingerprint security works very well on both devices and they allow for multiple fingers and you have an option for a very complex or a pin code to unlock the device, should your fingerprint not work.

I do note though that with the iPhone it sometimes asks for the pin if I haven't used the phone for a while?

What's nice with Android is you can set your safe zones so you don't need to fingerprint unlock, such as when near a certain wifi or Bluetooth network. With the iPhone you are forced to have to unlock no matter where you are. Probably better for security, but much less flexibility. While very easy to fp unlock the iPhone, there are times when I'm one handed and cannot easily reach the fp sensor.

Off topic but I was using the Note 5 along with my Iphone 6S Plus alternating back and forth.

I have since sold the Note 5, nothing wrong with it per se but there was a quarterback controversy. No more, I haven't used the 6S Plus since I got the LG v10 at launch.

That's your fault for getting the gigantic 6S Plus then :D:p

Having the 6S I don't have that issue, but it is useful to set trusted devices like a car.

I actually just did this two days ago..and am back to the iPhone already. I had the Note 4 for a few months last year and really liked it but ultimately got sucked back into the Apple ecosystem. Wanted to try out the Note 5 (and hopefully keep it this time) and had a TERRIBLE experience. Everything just seemed really clunky and the low light pictures were terrible. I was honestly suprised as I read great things about the Note 5 and had such a good experience with the Note 4. But either way, I would just bite the bullet and give it a week or two trial (buy it on a credit card full price and just return during return period) and see if you like it. I read eveyr single review out there and was sure I would like and keep the device and just ended up having the completely opposite experience. My experience with the Nexus 6P was MUCH better.
Have you tried the Samsung promotion to try the phone for $1 for a month? I just switched to a S6 and I'm liking it so far the screen and camera is really nice. I'm just hoping the battery life doesn't suck as much. All the other time switching to an android device it's either the display or camera is lacking. I might not go to Apple :D......until iPhone 7
