I was on 9.0.2 and moved to 9.3.3 using safari. calling it semi tethered is misleading... where is the tether? if and when I need to reboot be it from installing a tweak or for whatever reason, i go to the PP app, I hit the button I wait like 20secs... please explain to me the tether.... I don't have to do it on a mac or computer or anything like that it is all on the phone so it is practically untethered...

the drama queens who are bitching about that....are crazy.. now if I had to go to computer to do anything... now that's a diff story, it is self contained on the phone, not a problem for me.

I believe it's not semi-tethered. It is semi-untethered.

Tethered Jailbreak: You need a computer to boot up your phone. It will not boot into a usable state without the jailbreak utility on your Mac/PC.

Semi-Tethered Jailbreak: Your phone boots up normally, however in a normal state. If you want to be jailbroken, you must re-jailbreak with your Mac/pc.

Untethered Jailbreak: Your phone boots up normally, in a jailbroken state.

Semi-untethered Jailbreak: Your phone boots up normally, however not in a jailbroken state. You run an app on your phone to re-jailbreak.

Notice that the key difference here, in the first two above, is that you are "tethered" to your computer with a usb cable.

Notice that the last two, you are NOT tethered to your computer with the USB cable.

Dictionary.com defines a tether as " a rope, chain, or the like, by which an animal is fastened to a fixed objects as to limit its range of movement."

I hope that clears this up for some.

Me too!

"The drama queens bitching" ??? My guess is those who say it's no big deal were not previously jailbroken. It's a huge deal, especially if you use any UI tweaks. I can't imagine if every time the phone rebooted I had to "start" jailbreak mode in order to get all of my tweaks back. It's basically like your phone having dual boot but only having a choice to boot to safe mode each time, and having to manually go in and enable jailbreak mode every time. There's nothing the least bit appealing about that.

I say this having 2 JB'd iPhone 6S Plus, and an iPad Mini 4 which I got after JB window was over It's on iOS 10 DP2, and I downgraded to iOS 9.3.3 and jailbroke. After a couple reboots to see what it's like, I said screw this, not worth it, un-jailbroke and then went back to iOS 10. Would rather be stock than to have a half-baked solution on my device. Maybe 5 years ago when jailbreaking brought huge benefits, but now when it's more just small tweaks, not worth having to do the app every time to re-enable tweaks.

But maybe if I was justifying my device because I wasn't jailbroken before I'd be blindly defending a semi tethered jailbreak (the reason they call it that is that it's not truly an untethered jailbreak which requires no injection, but maybe the more appropriate name should be an "attended" jailbreak, since it needs to be tended to frequently). People tend to defend things as good when they have no other options because they look at it as their only option so they have to say it's amazing (ie people with bad credit blindly defending how "amazing" TMOBILE reception is).

And then there is that... oh but the responses are pouring in from those so defensive.... "Just use a dummy apple ID" .... "just use an apple ID without billing info" .... "use an old apple ID" blah blah blah. Why should I have to not be able to use one of the primary features of the Apple Ecosystem because a BAD jailbreak is released?

I'm of like mind, mostly.

Already JB on 9.0.2 so this later JB is of minimal importance...night mode and other small features since iOS 9.2 onward are really no big deal. Moreover, I turn my phone off nightly so having to rejailbreak each day is something I would avoid if possible.

But what happens after one year when the certificate expires?...are you stuck on stock iOS then?

Too many negatives, I'm good on 9.0.2...if ios10 gets an untethered JB, then maybe I'll upgrade then.

So your suggestion is to not be able to use iPhoto, iMessage, App Store, or anything else with your Apple ID? Cause regardless when you put it in, they're going to have access.

They were probably referring to the original version of the new jailbreak, where you enter your iCloud username and password into the PPHelper app to sign the ppjailbreak app..

How are people who jb on iOS 9.3.3 finding it so far?

My wife's iPhone 6 iOS 8 jb has a thin hair crack on the screen for a while now. I haven't changed it under AppleCare which will run out in September because she will lose her iOS 8 jb.

I'm contemplating changing it and jailbreak it on iOS 9.3.3.

But want to know if it's a good idea and want to do it only if this jailbreak is stable and can be re jailbreak easily after a reboot.

Thanks for all your contributions

she won't lose her jb over a screen repair. I replaced my iPhone 6 screen twice bc of the camera issue. Just shut off all my tweaks and put cydia in a folder.

With Applecare, I thought there will give you a another iPhone and take your one. That's what happens all the time I visited the Genius bar in the past

I'm still torn as to wether or not to update and JB or stick with 9.0.2.

I would like to have the latest OS and the security patches etc I've not never used a jailbreak that isn't completely unteathered.

I guess I best make my mind up ASAP before Apple stop signing 9.3.3.

The question about the certificate expiring after a year and what to do then was enough for me to stay on 9.0.2

Time to get off the fence though...

A year is a long time in the JB world.

In a years time we will be a month or so away from the release of iOS 11. So for the year long certificate to be a worry you'd have to believe there will be absolutely no jailbreaking at all of iOS 10.

If that's the case then I think we'd be safe to assume jailbreaking had died a death and we'd all be stuck with stock iOS anyway.

I firmly believe pangu are holding onto the unteather so they can use it in iOS 10.

The bit that bothers me is the restoring the JB. How do I get the phone into safe mode should I get stuck in a loop thanks to a tweak clash or crap update etc?

As the adage goes, "A bird in the hand..."

Who knows what the Pangu team has in store...now that Apple has bounties out, who knows if there will ever be another JB released for free.
