What work-arounds? iCloud? I don't consider storing my documents on iCloud a work-around. They're there on my Mac, they're there on my iPad, they're there on my iPhone, and they're there on my work PCs (though I do have to access them via a web browser since I can't install iCloud for Windows per my workplace's IT policy). I consider cloud-based storage pretty much essential.

And I can't use an Apple Pencil to write on my Mac.

Otherwise, everything I do on my iPads is pretty direct. I don't think any of my workflow really counts as a work-around. I mean I'm not emailing or texting files to myself to get them out of one app and into another or anything like that.

My workplace has put restrictions on downloading or opening certain Outlook.app email attachments in anything but the workplace OneDrive, but for that I've got a work-around (but that's got nothing to do with iPadOS limitations... it's my stupid workplace IT policy and is even more restrictive for Outlook web access on a desktop browser).

So what do you do when you want to edit a Word document? It's nowhere near as intuitive or easy as on a Mac, at least if you want it synced with your other files.

How so? It’s virtually identical to doing it on the Mac. I open the file in Word (either directly in Word or through the Files app), edit, save. Saves right back to the location from which it was loaded — local or cloud. Easy peasy.

And if I want, I can pop in a thumb drive and load from/save to that as well.

household of 4, only my younger kid has iPad - mostly to play Roblox and Minecraft, everyone else use iPhone + MacBook combo. I am not seeing this to change any time soon.

I had a IPP 12.9" but found it too limiting as a Mac replacement, so I sold it and went back to a MBP 16". Also have iPad mini and iPhone Pro, that selection of devices handles all my portable needs.

I have an M2 Mac Studio for my primary machine, an M1 14" MacBook Pro for my portable and an M1 12.9" iPad Pro. I originally bought the MBP to replace my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro for when on the road, but I find I prefer the iPad's weight and thinness most of the time since I generally just want a media consumption device and the iPad is easier on a plane. Hence why I upgraded to an M1 iPad Pro when there was that phenomenal deal on Woot (50% off Apple refurb) since the only thing I missed on my 2018 was the Mini-LCD display the MBP did (I also have MiniLED 32" displays for my Studio).

M1 2TB 12.9 iPad Pro, sits in my bag most of the time. I prefer my M1 MBP. I probably won't buy another IPP. I have the newest mini and that gets used more.

Not quite what you asked, but I own an 8.3" iPad mini 6 and a 12.9" iPad pro, and I use them both every day.

I'm a math instructor. I use the 12.9" iPad as a virtual whiteboard, connecting it to a projector for in person classes or Zoom for online classes and writing on it with a pencil. Afterwards, I can post a PDF of the contents of the Whiteboard.

I carry the iPad mini in a shoulder bag wherever I go. I use it for GPS, web browsing, and reading when I'm away from my desk.

I’m sure some people have specific needs where 11” and 13” are both uniquely useful enough, but for me they are too similar. Rather, I have:
- iPad Mini
- 12.9” iPad Pro
- 15” MBP

Instead of explaining what each device is used for, I find it’s more organized to list my needs and which device fills it.
Note I also have a 4.7” iPhone and a big-ish TV.

Heavy work at home - MBP
Heavy work on the go - MBP
Heavy work at office - (office desktop)
Light work/drawing at home - MBP/iPP/iPad Mini
Light work/drawing on the go - iPP/iPhone
Light work/drawing at office - iPP
Heavy consumption at home - TV
Heavy consumption on the go - iPP
Heavy consumption at work - (none haha)
Light consumption at home - iPad Mini
Light consumption on the go - iPhone
Light consumption at office - iPP

So you may be able to infer which devices leave the house with me and when-
My iPhone always leaves the house with me.
iPP goes with me to the office and on trips.
MBP pretty much only leaves the house when I need to work on trips.
iPad Mini and TV rarely leave the house.

You may not be able to infer- I am home a lot and I consume a lot, so the device I spend the most time on is my iPad Mini (excluding my office computer).

Note- if I didn’t have/want to draw, I likely would replace my iPP with a 13” MacBook Air.
