Ok, now to defend myself. First and foremost, I don't buy the Ferrari analogy. Nobody here fits into the category of old people who have spent their entire lives working and now want to have some fun before leaving this world for the next.

Regarding my old comments... Unlike others, I do in fact need the extra power of a MBP/PB. I do a lot of web design and Photoshop work and my 1024x800 iBook G4 has been absolutely killer. I made a big mistake and I will never repeat it. Other reasons why I will only buy pro hardware from now on include better resale value and "future proofness".

EDIT:

I completely disagree. Have you tried browsing today's internet using a G3? It is very painful, especially when using tabs or looking at websites that rely heavily on Flash, Windows Media DRM ****, etc. Oh, and take a look at Vista's or Leopard's system specs. Your "G3 processor (or a Pentium III)" will NOT do just fine, even if all you want to do is check your email and chat. You are not in fact getting that much extra horsepower when you buy a MB. The MB is pretty standard when it comes to modern computers.

EDIT 2 : One more thing. Gaming is a very good reason to buy a MBP. If you are into computer games, dedicated graphics is a must. I am not criticizing people who buy MBPs for this reason. I am criticizing people who buy MBPs just for "web browsing, iTunes, and Word processing."

That doesn't make too much sense. First off you don't need a MacBook Pro for webdesign so don't pull that one i use a macbook for that and it works well. Second, obviously they're not idiots if they can afford one of these machines.

Third, It's they're money, My Dad bought an XPS why, it's not because he plays games or does anything demanding really but he bought it because he likes it. and that ferrari analogy works fine it's the same thing.

Calboy. I hope you are joking. Did you even read or think about what I wrote? I explained exactly why that analogy is false.
Not really. You implied that no one on these forums was at the point in their life where money is no longer a concern and simply had the luxury to spend it. I think you'll find that there are many MR members who do have plenty of money to spend as they please.
About you finding my old age comment intriguing, give me a break dude.
I think a little hyperbole is appropriate now and then no?;)
Also, I never said ANYTHING about pro users, only that resale value is a valid reason to buy a MBP versus MB. And your comment "So if someone...relevance of this." This makes very little sense.
You agree with me then; anyone, whether or not they "need" a pro machine will benefit from the stronger resale value. Hence, there are some reasons why a non-pro user would want one.

Now, as for "it makes very little sense," I felt the same way about your analysis as to why, people are "idiots."
It's just not right that so many people get such great stuff without earning it.
How do you know they didn't earn it? Many posters (most in fact) indicate that they've saved up their money and are looking to make a wise decision. This is another generalization you've made that probably isn't true.
But whatever, I don't mean to hate, especially at a time of year like this. Sorry for any offense, I really shouldn't call people idiots.
I agree. There's no need to fight pointlessly over this issue. Let's put it behind us huh? :)
