Last year was the first time I've decided to buy a previous gen model on Craiglist. When the iPhone 8 and X came out, I scored a 128GB iPhone 7 with AppleCare for $500. For the wife, I got a 128GB iPhone 7 Plus with AppleCare for $550. Now I plan to do the same with the X once the new X models come out. I figure if I can sell my 7 for $350, even a $150 hit per year is a lot cheaper compared to the hundreds I would've lost if I bought a brand new X last year and tried selling it this year to get the new X.

Is anyone else loving the deals you can get by simply getting a one year old phone?

I'm actually hoping my iPhone X with AppleCare+ is worth about $800 after the new model is released otherwise its not worth paying off and selling vs just trading in to AT&T.

I think the X price drop to $700 after announcement.

Thats the reason I haven't paid it off yet. I have the 256GB model. AT&T has a 24-month zero interest finance but I pad the sales tax and AppleCare+ out of pocket. If I wait until October and trade my phone in I'll be effectively selling them a mint condition phone with AppleCare+ for $575. I usually get a new phone each year and were it not for the Plus model I'd seriously consider just keeping it for another year this time.

I hoping for a X+ model at the same price point as the current X new, which would bump the baby X successor down in price a bit. I'm really enjoying the size of the current X and would upgrade to the new same size version for a cheaper monthly price.

Ya I hope too, I can sell my X for around 7-800 without AppleCare + after the announcements since most buyers don't pay extra because it has apple care +.

The old X would probably disappear when new X comes.

Right, it would make absolutely no sense for Apple to retain the 2017 iPhone X in their lineup in direct competition with the 2018 iPhone X. That will only hurt their sales and take away from their newest/latest iPhones. So with the announcement of the 2018 iPhone X, will be the discontinuation of the 2017 iPhone X.

I never paid attention the iPhone X since I bought the 7 plus last summer, but i was at the apple store recently and checked out the X for the first time. As everyone (but me!) knows, it is actually smaller in footprint than my phone - which I like.

In September, I will (depending on price and such) be upgrading to the new version. Then I will just trade it in every year, since either way I will loose money on the phone (year one or year two).

No more 64 gb... is not enough for me. 256 is too much... come on Apple.

Well look at it from apple's perspective if they offered a 128 no one would buy the 256, so they offer the 64 but its too small for some people, so you have no choice but to get the 256gb model. If you look at their current options for the 8 & 8+ and X they offer the 64 and 256 gb model. I don't see them going back to 3 storage options again.

If they respect this, in the fall we will have only 256gb and 512 gb.

I'm waiting till September to see what Apple have up their sleeves for the next-gen iPhones before I consider purchasing one of them or the X.

I don't mind buying a second hand Apple product as long as there is the AppleCare warranty remaining.

How much are you guys looking to save?

It doesn’t look like it’s going to be much.

iPhone X Holds the Best Resale Value for a Smartphone

“iPhone X sets new record for resale value, averaging 85% of retail price”

If this the case then people who are looking for a deal on a used iPhone X will be sad, but for people looking to sell their X for the 2018 X then they will in a good position since they can get more money.

Do you realize how much 512 GB of memory is? That’s half a terabyte. That is an insane amount of storage that I doubt Apple will offer for the iPhone, even so, that would likely only be reserved for the iPad in the future. That’s very difficult to fill that amount of storage even with the most intensive user with media, applications, photos, etc. I highly doubt Apple will offer 512 GB for an iPhone.

Why would I drop that much on a used phone from a stranger? Rather spend a bit more and get a new one.......

Well using the 128GB iPhone Plus as an example, it's not just a bit more, it's a lot more.

128GB iPhone 7 Plus at launch was $869 or almost $950 with tax. I got the same phone a year later for $550 and it had an additional year of Apple Care (which normally costs $129). If I bought the phone brand new for $950 and sold it for $550 the next year to get the newest phone, I am losing $400 for a one year rental (basically people who buy new anyway trade it in or sell for the next brand new phone).

By buying used and selling used the next year (while staying one generation behind), you're only losing out on about $150 (assuming you sell it for $350) instead of $400-$500.

I got the 7+ 256 gb Jet/Matte black for $550 last year. Im debating whether i'm gonna wait another year before I consider anything else, Do the same thing I did but go wit the 8+, or like you go with the iPhone X. Im still not feeling the notch and no home button yet so most likely will skip another year or go with 8+. This phone works fine.
