People in our area are selling the iphone 6 for like $300. I have no idea why someone would pay that much for such an old phone.

It Depends on the storage and condition, but the iPhone has such a extreme popularity for resale, even broken iPhones still sell for $130 with shattered displays is just for parts. It really depends on how much somebody wants a specific model iPhone.

True this^^
A few years ago, I had an iphone 4s that just stopped allowing me to charge it fully. I was able to charge it just enough to wipe it out. I put it on auction on ebay and it sold for $200. I disclosed that it was not working but I was stunned at how many people bid.

I am still holding onto to an iPhone 7, so I am ready to upgrade. My current phone does what I need it to, I just want to upgrade. If the X is available at a significant discount I will buy that, otherwise I will get whatever the 2018 version of the X is called. I do not like to size of the plus sized phones. All carriers offer 0% financing so it would need to be half price for me to buy used from someone else and get one less year of AppleCare.

Right, it would make absolutely no sense for Apple to retain the 2017 iPhone X in their lineup in direct competition with the 2018 iPhone X. That will only hurt their sales and take away from their newest/latest iPhones. So with the announcement of the 2018 iPhone X, will be the discontinuation of the 2017 iPhone X.

So why have they had s models in between brand new iterations? Why is it not feasible the new model will be the Xs? Better specs. Some new features. Not saying I know, but an Xs isn’t far fetched.

I think you guys are saying the same thing. Xs or 2018 iPhone X. Samesies right?

I should have said why discontinue the X if there is an Xs. 6 wasn’t discontinued when the 6s came along. Same thing goes way back.

Your post is basically rehashing what I already posted as Nrvna76 stated, the 2018 iPhone X _is_ essentially an ‘S’ Model with upgrades without much hardware improvements, And, the 2018 X is rumored to start at A cheaper price point over the 2017 iPhone X. So clearly that would take the place of that existing model if that is true.

The difference being Apples iPhone lineup was not nearly as large it is now, plus; Apple is rumored to be offering a 6.1 LCD iPhone model, which is another reason likely why they would not keep the iPhone X that would compete with that model, which would mean they would have to lower the price again. Again, it’s all *pricing strategy* for these iPhones to fit into place without directly stepping on each other.

Last year I helped a friend buy a used 256GB 7 Plus and we found one for 500$. The phone was in perfect conditions and it had another year left of warranty (EU). I think I'm not going to buy the next iPhone X or X+, I'll just buy a 256GB X for half of the price it costs now and that's it.

I used to care a lot about having the latest and the greatest buy it's ridiculous to pay double just to be a year ahead into the future, especially if there's no crucial feature I care about in the next one.

Same for me. The last three phones I've bought have been used and I've been rather happy with them, all were in brand new condition and lasted several years before selling them forward.

Half may be wishful thinking since it’s rumored to retain 85% of its value.

Ya based on what current prices are for a X used and looking at the rumors its safe to say that sellers will make more money this year and buyers will pay more. Also there are not as many X's for sale at least in my area but that depends on each persons area.

I just got the X today

I only bought it because my friend sold it to me half price as she already has one and her company gave her one free. Offer was too good to refuse. Paid £500 for it brand new and sealed.

Of course the price is only around 85% of the price right now, the new X isn't out yet. iPhone prices drop like rocks once the new model comes out, prior to that you'll only see a 15 or 20% discount.

The funny thing is that it isn't even a year into the future. For example, if I buy an iPhone X today, it is literally the FASTEST iPhone out there. In 1.5 months when the 2018 iPhone X comes out, sure it might be blazing fast but it isn't like the X is old technology considering if you get one today, it is still the fastest iPhone out there.

I’m waiting for the 8 to slide down a “notch” this fall. Did you get see what I did there? No notch phone for me, ever.

85% really sounds like wishful thinking, you can already buy it now for that amount, brand new and sealed. There are a bunch out there, and I'm actually thinking about buying an X for 50-60% of its value around December - Jan

Not in my area, sellers here are greedy. One should still get 7-800 for a X if they sell it off just after the announcements and list it a week before.

The Problem is, if someone wants to sell the iPhone X, assuming that it is paid off, you don’t want to wait a week before the keynote, because everyone will be in anticipation of selling their previous iPhones to upgrade to the latest iPhone when it launches. Especially given once we know the actual iPhone September Keynote date, you will start noticing a heavy fluctuate of iPhone X models for sale on the Internet. Its the same cycle every year.

That is true, but if its anything like last year with 7+ re-sale prices, it is the case that the X will be still worth around 7-750. As last year up to 2 days after the keynote the 7+ was still selling in that area and if the X holds the similar value, then one should expect that much if one has the 256 model.

I don’t think X will be ‘wicked cheap’ with x2 tbh
Maybe shave another 200 off after “obsolete” and a successor with a small price drop

I’m ok with being wrong tho :p and wish ya luck

But there are other options now. The 6.1" model reputed to be available for less. And there is the rumor that the X replacement will drop $100 so the Plus model can take it's price point.

Which will hurt resale values of the X if true.

Years that there are important tech updates in the phone market make it harder to sell older models for close to new prices. T-Mobile and B71. ATT and B14.

The iPhone 5 had only limited LTE support, so the next year Apple came out with the 5s, and the 5c as the inexpensive model to replace the 5. Wasn't much faster, but had better LTE support.

I did just that the other day. Got two of them for 50% off for a business account . Wicked deal plus $800 credit for porting my number over to another carrier. The new iPhone will be more money and will have a few extra tricks but essentially look and feel the same.

My wife and I upgraded from iPhone 6s’ Couldn’t be happier!

I have feeling the 6.1” model with use last years A11 to further differentiate it from the 2018 5.8 and 6.5” models. If that’s the case iPhone X 2017 might be the better buy with the 6.1 have a lower Rez screen and single rear camera.

I’m going to go with there will be some savings to get an iPhone X after the new ones are announced in September, but it won’t be a huge amount.

The reason being is that the X is still selling well and for the most part Android designs have not caught up with it. I use a Galaxy S9 right now and when you put it by the X the X looks more advanced. I look at the X on eBay from time to time and the best deal I could get for an X 64gb right now is about $850. I’d guess that when the new iPhones are announced that the current X 64gb will probably drop in value to around here $700 or so.
