I got a stupid question...

I had an iPhone, switched to a 4S. So that means right now I'm accessing 3G, right? So if I bought a Galaxy S3, which is 4G LTE (right?), would I have to change my plan?

Could I just go out and buy the S3, go online and activate it just like I did my 4S and be good to go or do they have to change the plan you're on?

You just get the phone you won't need to change your plan. A data plan includes LTE, 3G HPSA +, 3G, EDGE, whatever. The phone itself will use the fastest with a good signal.

Thanks!! I didn't realize what the data plan consisted of, thanks for filling me in on that as well.

Swapped my iphone 4s for an S3. Judging by the iphone 5 I certainly don't regret it.

I agree and disagree. I played with my buddies 5 for about 2 minutes before I got bored. It's just a faster and taller 4/4S. After playing with it I found the design and weight more interesting. I could never get one as a 4S owner.

On the same note if I didn't have an iPhone or if my 4S was lost/stolen I would only be interested in the 5.

Instead? No. I like having an iPhone. But admittedly, I'm still curious to check out Android. Will probably still get an GS3 or Note 2 to try it out.

My dad just switched from the 4S to the S3 this weekend. After giving him a little tutorial and showing him some of the things he couldn't do with his 4S, he had the biggest smile on his face.

I've owned a Galaxy S3... twice. On paper, and at first, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. But once you really start to use it as your daily driver you start to notice all of the little quibbles with Android, and the phone itself. For example, there's a slight stutter and glitches almost every time you exit an app and return to the home screen. Also, the camera is noticeably inferior. Every phone has it's downfalls, but the grass isn't always greener.

If I left it would be for a galax nexus. If I'm going android I want pure android, not a version filled with Samsungs "improvements".

I love mac computers and like my ipad (moreso as a convenient toy than a functional device) but for phones I will probably never go back to ios devices. Unless apple changes things up in the future my next device will be the galaxy note 2

gs3 is great in theory

big screen
great processor
nfc

the problem is that the big screen makes the phone unusable with one hand, the processor is fast but bottlenecked because android os is laggy in itself and nfc is a awesome technology that is useless in the real world

opened a new line so i could get an iphone 5 after a month with a gs3

only upside is i got att to unlock it so now i have a router for my ipad

What's with iDevice fans coming here and stating something as fact? So your hand is too small for the gs3? Big woop? How does that make it too big for everyone else?

Also, the IP5 is just as Laggy as the gs3. How bout them apples?

You iPhone fanatics never mention WHAT is Laggy...Might as well call it stupid.

Maybe if you have small hands. I use it most times with one hand but i do use two at times. Doesnt bother me. Ive texted using two hands on my 4" Android as well and my small iPhone.

I will say this though, i wont go bigger than what the GS3 is. If the GS4 is 5" and the phone a bit bigger, i wont get it. I think if the next Nexus is again a 4.65" screen, that would be perfect but if it is 4.8" like the GS3, id get it.

It wasn't until last night that I actually got to play with an S3. Also last night I found out how full of crap a lot of people are here.

The screen was great, MUCH MUCH better then Android phones I've used in the past. I was in a bar so I didn't see how it looks in the sun but I don't use a phone in the sun. That pen tile debate is just nonsense on a screen with high PPI.

Viewing angles are BETTER then my iPhone 4S so I don't know what people are on about there.

The size was bigger (duh) but without a case is was as big as my iPhone with a lifeproof case on it. So it wasnt unmanageable.

Build quality is what made me realize so many people are on here are full of it. It feels fine, had good weight to it, it didn't creak or anything if you try to twist it.

I picked it up expecting to see a cheap plastic, crap screen pos. But it wasn't and I can see why people like it so much. I can see why people have to post scientific graphs showing the iPhone is better, you have to use computers and microscopes to see its flaws.

+1 My thoughts exactly.

Considering we said the exact same thing, just in slightly different ways, perhaps you look inward before projecting outward.

By your own standard, what is this?

I owned an S3 for several months whereas you probably held one for what, five minutes?

I'm sure I have more to contribute in an S3 thread than you, having owned both the device in question and a competing device.

I have an iPhone 5 and really thinking about returning it.
I've had iPhone 3g,3gs,4 and bought a 4s but gave it to my wife.
I've also been using a Verizon galaxy nexus since release here in the us.

I liked my 4 a lot. Especially jail broken. I love iFile and biteSMS, etc. Its the reason I gave up the 4s when I got it. There wasn't an untethered jailbreak at the time.
After using the 4s, siri was a big disappointment. It really sucks. And I felt that apple was doing a money grab, to me the 4s wasn't much better than the 4.
So I got the Nexus as a second phone. And now I'm in love with bigger screens. Yes the screen is pentile, but you really can't see the pixels at normal distances. Its not better than the 4 screen but its so much more useful when surfing the web or watching movies.
The nexus did have its issues and I was really disappointed on the updates, it was a google phone but seems like Verizon gimped it. So I rooted and ran stock ICS and now JB.
Those that say it lags have never used stock android, it really doesn't lag anymore than my 4 or 5.
Google has come a long way. I really like JB and think its great.

The iPhone crashes too and it seems that people give it a pass. My wife's 4s crashes all the time. We even had issues with the screen going blank on the dialer but you could dial out if you remember where the keys are.
All those times when you open a web page or an app and it just closes and goes to the homescreen, the iPhone just crashed. It happens a lot. But I never hear anyone complain. I guess its the way its handled. The iPhone doesn't say that an app crashed or the system crashed. It just does it and hides it from the user.
I think Google should do that too.

Now to the 5. Its a really nice phone. Looks very pretty. But the screen size is really annoying. Its just taller and to be honest sucks. Feels like a candy bar. What really kills me is the black bars. Its annoying.
My 5 lags when I load a web page and double tap to zoom, it'll just do nothing. I would have to pinch to zoom the. Double tap works again. It has already crashed on me when I tried opening up an SMS. The phone just rebooted. It was so fast but the apple logo came on.
Its fast but it really does feel like my 4 that's been over clocked. Also the price I paid for the 64gb feels like a waste. I got suckered into the 4" screen but in reality its my 4 with an extra row of icons.

I do like the s3 but I like my nexus too much to replace it with an s3. If i didn't have a Nexus, I would have an s3.
Instead l'm really considering the Note 2 or the Nokia 920. If I could get an exact release date on the 920, that's the phone I'll be returning or selling my iPhone 5 for.

If this says anything. I'm typing this on my one year old Nexus while my new iPhone 5 is on the dresser.

I'm currently using an iPhone 4S which I've been very pleased with but have ordered an S3 which should be arriving tomorrow.
To tell you the truth I'm a bit bored with apple, and in all honesty I do think their products are overpriced. I paid nearly £500 for the 4s with only 16 gb of memory, and if I were to upgrade I'd need at least 32 gig, which is nearly £100 more! That's extortionate, especially considering they don't offer a memory slot.
I'm not saying ill like the S3 but at least if I do I can upgrade the memory for a tenth of the price.
I wouldn't say I'm loyal to any brand and I think that apple products are the nicest to use, however there are too many limitations and not enough customer choice, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm quite happy with my iPhone 5. I did try a friends Android device, admittedly it was a Desire HD, not top dog by any means but I did also try a Samsung S3, but for a much shorter time.

I think honestly the width of the S3 and its plastic construction puts me off but more than those two things the UI felt sluggish to me and those kind of things irritate me quite a lot.

I love my iPhone 5 I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything that Android has. Another thing that I don't think people have brought up yet is iTunes. I know some people really really hate iTunes but I totally love it. I use the Genius playlist feature all the time, I have two Airport Expresses in my house and all my music is loaded in to iTunes. I'd not want to use some other media player or manually have to sync my tunes with an Android phone. I don't think they sync with iTunes or not by default maybe with some mods or something? I dunno.

iTunes on Windows isn't nice to use in my opinion but I don't use it on Windows, I use the OS X version and I'm eagerly awaiting the next major release later this month.

Are you jailbreaking your iPhones because your experience is not indicative of the iPhone experience without some serious user intervention ?

Seriously never had the crashing that you are reporting here, and my iPhone 5 is fast and never lags in anything I throw at it.

In fact I did a side by side comparison between my One X and my iPhone 5 when I got it, and as smooth as I thought Sense 4.1 & Android 4.0.4 had become on the one X (never had any complaints) , the iphone 5 bests it in regards to performance in everything. Launching Apps is noticeably, memory management (going back to previously open apps), Web pages load quicker (chrome browser test on both), and scrolling on any open application for example Netflix is super smooth on my iPhone 5, whereas scrolling on the One X looks jittery in comparison. I never noticed it until the two were side by side and then it was clearly apparent the difference.

Loaded Horn and Dark Knight Rises on both devices, and though Horn is THD optimised, it still performs much better on the new iPhone 5 in regards to frame-rate, despite the One X having extra cores over the iPhone5.

Still prefer the sense widgets and customisation, and in an ideal world if I could transpose my Sense widgets onto the iPhone 5, and create an app drawer for the iPhone 5, it'd be my perfect device.

As it stands I'm happy holding onto both, especially with JB out in a week or two on the One X.

I do at times however consider selling the One X and getting a SG3....

Too big....for YOU to use one handed. There is rarely a need to touch the top of the screen unlike iOS so unless you are missing a joint in your thumb its not too bad. An S3 is about the same size as my 4S with a life proof case and I have no problems.

Laggy, Jelly Bean

NFC, there are NFC tags you can use anywhere. Other NFC enabled phones. Plus the wide range of merchants that use it. McDonald, best buy, cvs, Sunoco, Walgreens, etc etc at least 20+ huge stores (gap, foot locker, etc). A lot of vending machines too.

I often experience minor crashes with my iPhone 4S, in that it'll often throw me out of an app. I'm guessing that this is due to the memory getting clogged up, as it happens mainly in memory intensive apps, like safari or photo editing software. I wouldn't think this will be an issue with the 5 though as it has twice the ram

Good that you never had a crash but I did. It was really fast though. Got an SMS. Unlocked to reply, bam a reboot. It was so fast. Just blacked out and Apple logo comes up and then back to the homescreen. Also get some weird artifacts sometimes when the keyboard comes up. Its like a line if rgb colors across the screen. It comes and goes really quick.
And double tap to zoon that doesn't work sometimes in safari annoys me.
I know people are gonna say I have a defective iPhone and I should exchange it. I would if I was going to keep it. But at this stage I think I'm going to return it and wait for the Note 2 or Nokia 920.
I've been trying to tell myself to keep it. I already have it etc. But I keep looking for news on different devices. That just tells me its time for me to move on from the iPhone.

If I never had a jailbroken iPhone with SBS settings, winter board, biteSms, etc. I wouldn't have known any different. Then the experience would be what Apple wanted it to be. But after having those jail broken features, plain iOS is boring and not that great too me.
I like being able to pull down the notification screen and have all my shortcuts there for WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. After you're able to do that, Apples way of going to the screen where your settings widget is located then going into whatever setting you want to turn them on and off, is really silly to me now.
I like having little icons in my status bar that tell me if I have mail, SMS, etc. I like being able to reply to an SMS from whatever screen or app I'm using with biteSMS, without having to exit that screen or app. I could go on as to why jailbreaking is what makes the iPhone the phone for me. But ay this moment my iPhone 5 can't be jailbroken and the experience is crappy to me.

I can honestly say that my Nexus with JB is not too far behind my iPhone 5 in terms of speed during regular daily use.

I can only imagine how much better the s3 with JB can be. I'm really not into Samsung touchwiz or HTC sense etc. I have a Flyer that I took sense off as soon as there was a ICS and JB ROM for it.
I feel that all that crap the manufacturers put on top of stock android is what makes it laggy etc. When I removed sense off my Flyer, it was so much faster doing everything. Even basic swiping was faster with less lag.

I paid 475+36 activation and a new 2 year contract with att. for my 64gb iPhone 5. And I feel like it was a waste of money. Like I posted earlier, my 5 feels like my 4. Just a little faster and now I have a 5th row if icons. But holding it doesn't feel as good as the 4. Using lots of my apps feel the same because of those stupid black bars. Holding the 5 in landscape feels the exact same as my 4.
What I lost was all the jailbroken features I used all the time that made my experience so much better.
Now that I don't have those features on the 5. It just feels bleh.

This is all my opinion from my experiences using and owning these devices.
