script workarounds are not practical for me as I essentially cannot unlock without a functioning keyboard. I might have to bite the bullet and buy a new keyboard but it seems massively wasteful.I had it happen once with the older models of the Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad. I used the option-shift Bluetooth menu reset Bluetooth module command and the problem went away. Since then I’ve upgraded both the trackpad and keyboard to the latest and haven’t seen it again.
Edit: The menu item seems to have gone away in Monterey. So that fix might not work for long.
Yeah it will only work if you can actually log in. I usually have an old wired keyboard and mouse kicking around for use in emergencies.script workarounds are not practical for me as I essentially cannot unlock without a functioning keyboard. ha LOL really.... so have I yet I just spent £££££ on a new Mac mini that can no recover from a display going to sleep.Yeah it will only work if you can actually log in. I usually have an old wired keyboard and mouse kicking around for use in emergencies.
I think the lagging is more likely to be 2.4GHz wifi signal interference. If you can disable that on your wifi router, and any other device close to your keyboard (e.g. phone, computer etc.) it might help.I bought a new TouchId blutooth keyboard since I recently purchased a M1 MPB.
While I transition to the new machine I started using the bluetooth keyboard on my old 2013 MPB and am experiencing severe lagging issues like described by others: Lagging and multiple letter typing. I have no Idea when this happens. Can't be reproduced or fixed. Right now it is working very fine. I really hope those issues are not appering on the new device.
Could it be a faulty keyboard?
thanks a lot for the quick response. I did not know that BT interferes with 2.5 ghz. How dumb is that? I mean all apple devices are designed to work more and more wirelessly. I cannot turn off 2.4 since I have devices in the network that depend on it but I will force the Mac to only use 5.8..I think the lagging is more likely to be 2.4GHz wifi signal interference. I had severe issues but am not having them anymore.I have this same issue with a M1 MacBook Pro and a magic keyboard that's only 2 years old. It is infuriating and seems to be happening more and more lately, at least several times a week. If I plug the keyboard in via USB, I can use the keyboard immediately. But I can't use it wirelessly again until I restart the computer.
I use my MBP with an external monitor. The MBP always remains closed in this configuration.
If this happens again, you can try to fix it by resetting the Bluetooth module.I have this same issue with a M1 MacBook Pro and a magic keyboard that's only 2 years old. I am using the current model (2023) Magic Keyboard with number pad, black, on my Mac Pro 5,1 machine:I've had those issues with my current iMac (2013) and my previous iMac (2010). The easiest fix I have found is I power my keyboard off and turn it back on and everything is good for awhile. I have a hard time believing Apple can't fix this annoyance.
My Magic keyboard is new, and the battery is also new, showing 100% on Magic Battery app. I have the same issues. The battery is not the problem.Change batteries. My experience is that when my old Apple bt keyboards and trackpad starts to act "funny" it is an indication that the batteries are weak and things goes back to normal with fresh batteries.
Magic keyboard and Magic Touchpad act as a wired keyboard/Touchpad when they are connected with a lightning cable to the computer. Magic Mouse with its charging placed at the underside will be hard to use while connected though.I am using the current model (2023) Magic Keyboard with number pad, black, on my Mac Pro 5,1 machine:
macOS Monterey, Version 12.8.6
Mac Pro (Mid 2010)
Processor: 2 x 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon 5690
Memory: 96 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk: NVMe SSD 01 Monterey
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 16 GB
The new Magic Keyboard replaced my previous cabled white Mac keyboard. This keyboard was made for the new Mac Pro 7,1 but was also advertised as backwardly compatible, so I took the plunge. I have had this problem from the start with the new keyboard. The keyboard not only lags (hopeless for gaming) but also occasionally makes many repeats of a single key-press. It is especially poor when filling in forms on a web application, such as Facebook, or contact pages on corporate websites. My Mac Pro has the current 5G WiFi & BT Broadcom card installed using the IEEE 802.11ac protocol. This should not be happening. Resetting the keyboard and/or BT is a nuisance (This requires me to pulg in an old cabled mouse to restart BT as I am also using the Magic Mouse) and doesn't seem to work anyway. I hope there is a better solution.
Yes, indeed. I know that. I am using OpenCore to run macOS on this Mac Pro 5,1 machine, which is not officially supported for macOS Big Sur or higher. The OC boot-loader does not turn on WiFi or BT, and because I have multiple boot drives, I need access to either a mouse of keyboard to navigate the boot-picker. I work around this problem by plugging in the keyboard. But keeping the keyboard plugged in all the time obviates the advantage of a Magic Keyboard. It should be possible after booting macOS to use the keyboard as intended. This expensive keyboard has been a disappointment. I hope that a future patch will fix this problem.Magic keyboard and Magic Touchpad act as a wired keyboard/Touchpad when they are connected with a lightning cable to the computer. Magic Mouse with its charging placed at the underside will be hard to use while connected though.

But there you are wrong. It does happen with my new very high priced Apple Magic Keyboard (black). There is a delay for pairing, and I get lag.I know this doesn't happen on my built in MacBook keyboards or Apple brand keyboards, but those don't have multiple profiles built in to the hardware, so I suspect that's the culprit.
Sucks to hear that--I haven't used an Apple one in a while because I have multiple devices I use at my desk and this is just easier. (and the Magic Mouse was making my arthritis flare up)But there you are wrong. It does happen with my new very high priced Apple Magic Keyboard (black). There is a delay for pairing, and I get lag.
Hi. I sympathise completely. Besides, original Apple components are very high priced and are not always better. I have the feeling that Apple lost it way not long after Steve Jobs died. And the Magic Mouse is horrible, in may ways. You cannot rest your fingers on the upper surface, so you keep all the extensors stressed while using it. That is one of its fundamental design flaws. Unfortunately, the upgrade to Monterey meant that my Razer Death Adder Gamers' Mouse was no longer compatible with the Mac Pro, and I am using the Magic Mouse by default until the Logic MX Master 3S that I ordered arrives.Sucks to hear that--I haven't used an Apple one in a while because I have multiple devices I use at my desk and this is just easier. I don't think Apple has generally lost its way, but their Magic Mouse definitely needs a rethink. I physically can't use such a low profile device and the charging port is ridiculous.Hi.
