I updated my daughter's iphone 6 yesterday. Beginning last night, her iphone would restart itself when she was on one of her social media apps. I deleted and reinstalled FB, Snapchat and Instagram one by one, and all was okay until she texted me from school to say her phone just restarted when she tried to text me.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong, and how to fix it?

Can anyone help? Anecdotally it happened on several of her friends' phones, too, as well as her sisters. Apple chat said to make sure all the apps are up to date and we have. As they;ve been updated it's happening less frequently but it still is happening - just now when she was googling something. Thoughts, especially since it's happened to three phones that we know of after the update?

Apps are always up to date but there have been a bunch since the ios update and they keep coming.

I asked her what she was doing and it was a different thing each time - social media app, music, texting with the native app and now Googling through Safari. What the heck?

I saw it happen with my own eyes. The phone goes to a white screen with the black Apple logo and then comes back to the lock screen like nothing ever happened. I don't know the correct term for that, sorry.

I can't account for whether it restarts without anyone knowing. I've kept track of when it does, but obviously if the phone isn't being used or watched I don't know if it's happening. It hasn't happened to my or my husband's phone that I know of.

Took it out of my pocket with the apple logo and thought i mistakenly turned it off but when i went to pick up my phone form the table saw it again. Might pass by the apple store later on but i dont think i can reproduce the issue infront of them

I deleted and reinstalled the apps that originally caused the problem when it started on Dec. 12/13- facebook, snapchat and instagram. But it also happened on the native texting app and on Safari.

Apple did an online diagnostic and determined the hardware was fine. They could see a bunch of software crashes, obviously. They said the wifi update might have gotten corrupted on both phones, even though I've updated that way on multiple devices for several years. Talked me through backup and restore via itunes. Here's hoping .....

It's still happening. And a family I know with 8 iPhones says it's happening on every single one after the update. I will let Apple chat know.

Do you have the Microsoft Outlook app on your devices? Prior to iOS 10.2 it made my device respring randomly, and I'm not sure if you are having that problem.

One phone does, one doesn't. I'm getting a call from a senior advisor tomorrow, but I've already put in for Verizon replacements.

Thanks .... I'm hoping the advisor can help, but I'm not sure what more can be done.

iPhone 6 Plus here, its restarting in every 5-10 mins.
Screen goes, then comes back.

And phone app and messages app completely goes blank.
And no calls and SMS come then. I have to restart to get it, then again same thing in 5 minutes, again vanishes.

I'm not experiencing the phone restarting, but I am experiencing a lot more springboard crashes in 10.2 compared to 10.1. Black screen, spinner icon, then back to home screen.

Snapchat was the culprit here.

For us, it was fixed by first disabling background app refresh - I compared all the settings across the phones, and this was enabled on my daughters' phones, and disabled in mine (I had no problems).

Then, within 10 minutes, a fresh snapchat update came through that had the same number across the phones. For some reason, SC on my daughters' phones had a different build number than the one on mine, no matter how many times they deleted and reinstalled it.

No restarts since doing that Monday. I am not sure if background refresh had anything to do with it, but definitely getting the "right" snapchat update was the solution. Frustrating why they got a different one to begin with.

Just because you haven't had issues in the past doesn't mean you won't have issues in the future. I have had countless successful OTA updates and I have had a handful of corrupted OTA updates. Its just how software works. Additionally, if the software is corrupt, restoring your backup would then restore the corrupt software. The only way would to restore as new.

Sounds like Snapchat was the issue, but if it returns, then you definitely need to restore the phone as new.

I'm not experiencing the phone restarting, but I am experiencing a lot more springboard crashes in 10.2 compared to 10.1. Black screen, spinner icon, then back to home screen.

This same thing was frequently occurring a few weeks ago in 10.1 on my iP6, and then it did not happen again until twice today.

I have yet to install 10.2.

If I plug the phone into my MBP while it is crashing (i.e., Black screen, spinner icon, black screen, spinner icon over and over), it will then go back to the keypad to unlock.

Very strange behavior which must be software related IMHO...
