That's a good question. Apple uses Core Image (inside Mac OS X) to render RAW and other image files. So the D300 and D3 support should be coming from a Mac OS X update, but maybe Apple got the right idea from Adobe, and found a way to tie it into the Application, and not the more complex and powerful OS.
