Is there any app out there that allows free texts between iPhone users. One that will hopefully support PUSH in the future so the message pops up.

I know the likes of IM (beejive) do something similar but that requires the receiver to be signed in.

Thanks

beejive can keep you signed in 24/7... sooooo i don't see what the problem would be using that.

If I read this correctly, you're looking for a peer to peer connection? Like bluetooth? or on a local wifi network?

Try Textfree Unlimited. You both register your phone number and then you can send texts back and forth for free. And Texfree now supports Push so you will get notified just like a regular SMS.

Does this work in the UK??

And to the other messages, Text messages cost money and are not free and sometimes I sign in to MSN on my computer which signs me out of Beejive, so there is a prorblem.

me and my friends used fring. just dont sign into msn. youll have to sign upto fring though. and im sure fring will support push soon though.

Apple needs to make one of these apps and put it in the OS. People love that stuff.

Now that I think about it AT&T probably could and would stop Apple from making a native app like this. Unlike with Blackberry who's on ALL carriers and can "take their ball and go home", AT&T has Apple by the balls and vice-versa. I'd imagine that would go down just like the skpe and sling apps did.

Why? Apple could easily just move to another carrier if AT&T give them jib.

Besides am on o2 UK and cant get any of these free text apps.

Pin messaging would only work with other iphones but its really a good idea. I LOVED it when i owned a blackberry. However, Apple would need to make their own network like BB does. Dont forget, RIM has their own data network and pretty much does whatever they want. Thats why their push is so nice.

A Blackberry Messenger equivilent client for the iPhone would seal the deal for me.

It would need to:
- Have an instant messaging feel and look, not a SMS style one like the iPhones.
- Have the delivery reports: BBM places a "D" next to a message when its delivered, and an "R" when the message hasnt been read.
- Status updates: like away msgs.
- Exclusive between users of this particular application
- Must approve a person before they can speak to you with the application.

That would be amazing - and give everyone a random PIN - or let them sign up at a website and give them a pin like number in exchange. EXCLUSIVE to the iPhone - and nothing else..

Would be fantastic. I would love to rub it in all those smug blackberry user's faces - set my facebook status to "iPhone pin A5398JK". Hehe :D

If anyone can make this app - I would donate money for it.

It would need to be free so that it can be put on everyone's phones - but if you put a donate feature on it - I'm 100% sure many others would donate..

I'm trying to look into making something like this. If anyone is interested in development, please contact me.

Not tried it myself, but Bluchat may be the kind of thing you're after.

Its a good idea, but I would like to use this over long distances, not within 10m. Although am in the UK, I would still like to try this app just for the sms between iphone users. A lot of my friends have iPhones so this would be cool.

Actually, if there was some way to connect to BBM users, I'd pay extra $ for that. A lot of my friends still have BB's and I have definitely noticed a drop in mobile to mobile contact since I moved to the iPhone. My network is pretty spread out all over the globe so BBM was a quick, easy, free way to stay in touch.

But if it was just for iPhone users, I'd say call it something besides a PIN. iPiM# = iPhone Instant Messaging #?
