I resolved it by restoring my phone. was a pain though

Did a manual update to the iOS 12 Developer Beta 5 through iTunes using the IPSW file and it seemed to fix the App Store updates that were being problematic. The Software Update screen looks correct now too with the "Automatic Updates" option visible again (wasn't when "Cannot check for update" error was there). Not ideal, but can move back to Public Beta when v5 comes out.

Yup, it's back for me again. Now I can't even check for iOS updates, it either spins forever "Checking for Update..." or eventually errors saying "Unable to Check for Update - An error occurred while checking for a software update."

Really hoping the new PB comes out today and resolves this issue.

It seems to align with whenever a new beta OS drops the issue comes back. I also say this starting on Tuesday this week and mine had fixed itself a week after beta 3 dropped.

I have been having the issue since 08/02/18. I first noticed it with Podcasts not downloading but App updates will not download as well. I will eventually get “App/Podcast could not be downloaded at this time.”

I did notice an App with the lines through it yesterday, so I thought it might be hung up on it. But, a hard reboot cleared that and did not resolve the issue. It would be nice to be able to pinpoint the cause.

I can join this club to.. First noticed it because my podcast cue in Overcast wouldn't download anymore (streaming works without problem). Then apps didn't seem to update and installing new apps takes hours. This morning it was a bit faster but something still feels off. I don't want to restore because then I lose Apple Pay (not yet here in the Netherlands but it works just fine).

anyone have any luck? After about a week from the beta dropping last time my apps started updating but no luck so far.

No joy, I've started using Safari to access most of the stuff which the apps have stopped working for. It's frustrating as I can't even use the Feedback app to provide feedback as a Public Beta user. I have a feeling I'll have to restore to 11.X and then re-update to the next PB next week as I'm sure it won't drop until next Tuesday.

same problem here - the os won't download the new version and I have 14 apps that won't update.
I'm resorting to DFU => 11.4 and try again.

Beta 5 fixed the issue for me. Perhaps beta 6 which just dropped will take care of you.

I can't update to beta 6. Settings gives an error message saying it can't find updates. So that's going to be an iTunes restore..

Update: the update just popped up!

I updated to Beta 6 via IPSW since it was giving me the can't find updates error that @WhatYearIsThis mentioned. However, Beta 6 has not fixed updates / background activity working.

This seems to be a wider reaching issue. For example, files are not uploading in the Files app, App Store updates won't download, etc.

I’m also in the same camp. In addition to OS updates and App Store updates it seems Dropbox has the same issue.

I ended up going Big Bang.

full DFU restore back to 11.4.x and then Public Beta 5 OTA and restored a backup from PB4 and everything is working perfectly... fingers crossed

Hey, how do you do this (upgrade to beta 6)? I am also running into this issue so I'd love a work around to upgrade to the next beta since nothing is showing up for me and I'm having this annoying download issue.

I grabbed the IPSW from the Developer downloads and Option > Restore from iTunes. Previously I had done an encrypted backup to iTunes so all my data was intact. Then when the phone restarts I chose that backup.

So far I'm back to 'normal'. I have left a few messages in Feedback app with my experience.

So to update, I did an iCloud restore to a backup from yesterday and everything is working fine again. Doesnt really make sense, but I'll take it! So if anyone is still having this issue you can just do an icloud restore to the same ios 12 beta and it should fix the issue. All my apps are downloading again and I can now access the upgrade for beta 6.

Now I am getting even weirder bugs.
Apps can't update.
Apps can't load.
Apps crash.
Buttons in apps stop working.
Apps can't open.
iOS can't update.

Everything was fine until yesterday and then all of a sudden everything seems like it's destroying itself from the inside out.

Same issue as many of you have stated, slow to impossible to update apps, News app, not even able to find the latest BP5...phone is borderline unusable.

I am on iPhone X, why would it not affect some iPhone X's? Isn't that the point of Apple controlling hardware and software? I could understand these bugs if these were random Android phones.

Same, I don't understand how it is only affecting a portion of users. Is there an A/B test with public betas?

I have had the issues for weeks. I took an iCloud backup tonight then reset all content and settings on the phone then restored to the backup. Everything is fixed now and I didn't lose anything. Can't say for sure it will help everyone but I am glad to be back to normal.

Would you be able to recommend a guide to do this at all please?

I’m experiencing the same issue on b6 with apps not downloading or updating. I have tried everything aside from reinstalling the iOS beta.

The iOS Beta update is now showing. It has been "Estimating time remaining...." for about 5 hours now.

Another thing I have noticed since this started is I am prompted to enter my Apple ID password every few days.

Apps cannot be updated or take hours to update
Podcasts cannot be downloaded
Photos are not uploading to iCloud Photo
Cannot download files from Files
Cannot update iOS

Can i ask what version of iTunes you used please? I have the latest from the Apple website but it still says I need the latest available (on win10 if it matters).

I have the same plus Netflix and Dropbox appear affected too.
I don’t have the update prompt on mine though.
It looks like a networking issue, I reset mine but no change but might be worth trying yours?

After a week of not being able to update apps (40 of them) and then my Apple Pay cards unlinking from my Apple Watch and not being able to do a re-pairing of the Watch I decided to reload. DFU>iOS11.4.1>iOS12b6>reload backup.
Everything back to normal.

I also took a backup, did a full reset then restored. No data loss (just had to remember to make sure the 2FA stuff was backed up, disable 2FA for a couple of things temporarily and reset up the apps that don’t backup like banking and similar). Suprisingly easy in the end.
