Happens on my iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Air 2 and my sisters iPhone 6S.

Some of you are probably not doing it "right".

It is a bit annoying when you constantly switch between twitter, snapchat, fb, safari and instagram like me. It sort of gets "stuck" and i end up on the spring board
If you have a bunch of apps open and select the wrong one from the switcher, or have to work between different apps and forget where you are, this is quite an inconvenience.
Seems like it ultimately comes down to a matter of giving it about a second before doing it once you go into an app vs. doing it immediately right away.

The behavior was changed in the betas. The home button press still drops out immediately back to the home screen.

Probably something to keep the system stable without using too much processing power.

It's weird and inconsistent. When you switch press home button just once quickly after a switch, there is a one-second delay and then it goes to the home screen. But the double press just doesn't register.

I actually somewhat have this issue on my 7 Plus or it might just be an entirely different issue altogether. As soon as I go into an app from the app switcher and double press the home button, nothing happens. I have to press it again after a second to activate the app switcher. Kinda weird but I don't care as I don't usually switch apps that quickly.

I don't mean lag. I mean the delay. Double press home button and go into an app then quickly double tap home button again and it won't do anything,
Tried this on my 7 plus on 10.2 and the same thing happens. No response.

I was about to joke the heck out of you about not doing it "right." But, I successfully duplicated the issue and found you might be right. When it's said you have to double click as quickly as possible, I didn't think you had to be NINJA fast. But dear god, you do. Like, it's not within a second, it's more like within milliseconds you have to double click.

Sorry - but I just don't think this is a problem. It took quite a bit for me to duplicate it.

Yeah, didn't see it on my Air 2 until I also did the "Ninja fast" try (which seemed unnatural to how I actually use the device - it was a forced replication that is not an issue for me in any sense).

Reported as a bug.

That delay is iOS waiting to make sure you aren't about to double or triple click. It should be disabled in the app switcher since it serves no purpose. If you goto Settings > General > Accessibility and change click speed from default to Slowest it gets REALLY bad. Unfortunately there isn't a faster setting than default click speed.

The double click not responding (which I can emulate on my iPad and iPhone) is also a bug but if they got rid of the delay in the app switcher and it activated immediately and went home it wouldn't be an issue (for user error lol jk).

Not sure if it's related to the delay, but I've found a graphics glitch with the app switcher too.

If you only have one app open and go into the app switcher from the open app, the dock on the home screen preview is momentarily a dark colour. It doesn't happen (or at least you can't see it) when you have two or more apps open as you can't see the home screen in the list and have to scroll across by which time it's sorted itself.
