No, it was very much on-topic, and directly related to and responded to the OP, as have my posts here. You are welcome to ignore my posts, if they disturb you so much, but my opinion is just as valid as anyone else's.

To be fair, the update was probably dictated by Intel and not Apple. I assume Apple would have continued to try to sell the same thing until whatever it is they're doing to replace the current Mac Pro was finished.

At this point I think it is a safe bet that the current Mac Pro tower is dead to be replaced by something else that Apple thinks will be better. I wouldn't be surprised if Thunderbolt plays a huge role in it (or they would have just slapped Thunderbolt in it by now).

No the intel excuse does not hold up. Dell and HP have updated their workstations atleast 6 times since apple has. CPU's aren't the only thing in the machine and even regarding CPU's apple is lagging behind. Dell and HP both are shipping e5 xeons while apple is still shipping out nehelam which is an architecture from 2008. Absolutely unacceptable. The 5770 is an embarassement too. And the fact that they are charging 200 dollars to go from a 5770 to 5870 is even more ridiculous.

Even though I am not really in "Pro" market, I would like to see this beauty get updated. Mac Pro has always been an iconic of the best Apple has to offer (well is it the most highest price in all Apple's products).

Mac Pro 2012? Really? I don't see any updates at all...

Yeah, it really isn't an update, considering you could BTO most of these specs prior to today. The way I see it, if no one can prove that those recent emails from Cook are legit, I'm going to continue thinking that the Mac Pro is done. The tech is over 2 years old now, not ideal for a professional machine, is it?

If it's all there is, it's all there is. We can't make alternatives magically appear.

At least not in the official Mac OS world. Hackintosh and Windows don't count.

I just thought of something, in spite of the really ancient video cards, the 12-core Mac Pros are probably better than the iMac for 3D rendering.

The answer to this and all similar threads is if you don't want the offering, buy something else or leave the money in the bank. None of the complaining here means anything

It is probably justified to say that Apple fooled some of its loyal customers by offering a so light renewal to its Mac Pro line. For one, I felt very bad although not desperately bad since I already bought a 2010 edition. I relieved my frustration through ordering an iPhone4S, which diverted my attention to the anticipation of my new phone. On this frustrating day, I completed my Apple ecosystem with iPod, iPhone, iPad, ATV, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Pro, AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, and Cinema Display.

Interesting detail: The German Mac Pro pages on Apple's website are now completely in English. May be a short system hiccup, but could also indicate that Apple does not want to invest anymore in maintaining local pages for that part of their portfolio...

hackintosh

Ultimate Hackintosh might be the new Dell Precision T7600 (or similar).
Dual Xeon E5-2687W 3.1 GHZ
16 memory slots (up to 512 GB Ram)
4 x 2.5 HD slots
4 x 3.5 HD slots
HD slots all front accessible and lockable and no cables.
Raid card
4 x PCIe x16 slots
2 x PCIe x4 slots
USB 3.0 and 2.0

This case design looks pretty cool. Very few internal cables now.
Apple should use this as a starting point for their next MacPro rev.
Only thing missing to me is Thunderbolt.
Wonder when someone will try to set that up.

I don't like how people are defending Apple's "upgrade" to the Mac Pro. Rather they are complaining about complaining.
As an Apple share holder, I understand the reason to kill the MacBook Pro 17" and to spend $0 on the Mac Pro in 2 years (both systems I prefer) but if a similar update happened to an iPhone or 13/15" MacBook after 2 years, all hell would have broken loose.

Well I was forced into buying one of these non updated mac pros today since my old mac pro died this morning and it was a piece of crap and its going back. Slow, beachballs everywhere. I am sure I got a bad one and if returned could swap it for one that works but I have a stale taste in my mouth from the Mac Pro and am moving down to the mac mini which I already own. My only reason was for the drive space but I have to tell you I felt raped paying $4K for a 2 yr old machine.
