There's a difference between blatant stealing and making a competing product. I think it's fair to say that iWork and the Zune fall under the latter. WMM, Chess and Calendar can go either way, I haven't used them enough to say what they are.

Chess is one one the list I see as a COMPLETE rip-off, not just a competitor.

MS stole Widgets, and turned them into Gadgets...

ms stole also [...] aqua, os x, the start menu.
Whaa!? Take these off the list please...

There are examples of MS copying Aqua, but the Vista UI is MUCH worse. The start menu? And OSX, what the hell?

MS now has built in search, but this can be seen either as a rip-off of spotlight, or a natural evolution.

iWork is NOT a theft by Apple from MS...at all...

Pages is not a ripoff or competitor to Word. They have two different goals.

The only crossover between iWork and Office is keynote/powerpoiint. You might want to clarify that.

I believe Apple 'stole' fast user switching.

michael-appleru
Apple Stole:

Microsoft Office, and made it completely better!!(iWork) -competing product

Ppl should no that appple didnt steal office. Bill gates saw that having Office in a mac would gt him lots of money. He let Mac use office. And became a stock holder for apple. He ownes 10% of apple. Thats why apple has, thay didnt steal it bill let them:)

Apple doesnt sink that low

The only clear "stole from" instead of "inspired by, and took a bit to improve their product" is Chess...

Its quite likely MS wouldn't have had tabs in IE7 without Firefox, but its not really fair to say they 'stole' them, is it?

1) I can barely understand you.
2) Microsoft sold those 150,000 shares they bought in 1997 a long time ago. The (non-voting!) shares totaled only about 2% of Apple's market share. According to my quick research, MSFT only owns less than 0.005% of Apple's outstanding stock and it is through a fund in which Apple is also invested.

My point was that Apple didn't steal Office. As suggested, they bought it. That is my point nothing else. Sorry for any grammar in other messages, i am rather rushed at the moment.

Bill gates saw that having Microsoft Office on a competitors computer would get him lots of money.
He let Mac use office. For the price of 10% of Apple Shares.
Thats why apple has Office for mac, thay didnt steal it, Bill Gates let them buy it.

Apple didn't have to buy Office from Microsoft. I remember reading around here that MS was "forced" to create and Office for Mac for monopolistic reasons? Not sure, actually.

Apple didn't buy Office. Microsoft has always owned the rights to Office. They decided to make a Mac version of it. Apple had nothing to do with it.
