Apple didn't buy Office. Microsoft has always owned the rights to Office. They decided to make a Mac version of it. Apple had nothing to do with it.

But they only let mac use it after getting a rather large amount of shares from apple

Texas, unfortunately.
I can't see this thread ending well...but yes, I do think Apple stole fast user switching from Microsoft.

Which has been my point all along

No duh... Office is made for both Windows and Mac OS, whoever said they did steal it?

1. People should no that appple didnt steal office
2. Bill gates saw that having Microsoft Office on a competitors computer would get him lots of money.
3. He let Mac use office. For the price of 10% of Apple Shares.
4. Thats why apple has Office for mac, thay didnt steal it, Bill Gates let them buy it.
5. Better?

Boganrulz wz here

1. We do, but not for the reasons you supply
2. True, but he also had other concerns (pending monopoly charges)
3. Wrong...Microsoft invested in Apple to keep them as a competitor (same monopoly concerns, plus cheap R&D source)
4. Microsoft produces Office: Mac...Apple doesn't have anything to do with it (other than it's running on a Mac), it's not like Bill Gates sold them the rights to it.

iwork is the bundle that Office Comes in for mac

You, my friend, is REALLY confused. iWork hardly has ANYTHING to do with Office, let along Microsoft. Aside from the alleged stealing of Office ideas by Apple.

MS stole a windows based OS created by Apple in the 1980s. Isn't that where it all started?

Beat me to it.

Well they stole the whole concept, atleast. . . the GUI, etc.

Oh, and the mouse -- Apple bought it from Xerox I believe, and then Microsoft took that over, I think

i may be wrong, though.

to say MS stole the Zune, or Apple stole iWork would be foolish...that like saying Palm stole the Palm Pilot from Apple. They are similar but different ideas.

This thread is pointless. Nobody cares what technologies are similar in the operating systems. And I love how you say Microsoft stole all of these things from Apple

Microsoft Stole:
iPod (Zune) -competing product
iMovie (Windows Movie Maker)
iCal (Calendar included with Vista)
iPhoto (included with Vista)
100% stolen- Chess (Chess program included with Vista{a COMPLETE duplicate of Apple's Chess})
expose,
Dashboard and Widgets
Spotlight

According to your logic:

iPod/Zune: Apple did not invent the mp3 player
iMovie: Apple did not invent NLE
iCal: Apple did not invent the calendar
Chess: Apple did not invent Chess
Widgets: Konfabulator was out way before widgets in os x

Therefore, Apple stole all of these ideas too.

My point was that Apple didn't steal Office. As suggested, they bought it. That is my point nothing else. Sorry for any grammar in other messages, i am rather rushed at the moment.

Boganrulz wz here:)
Some suggestions:

- You don't need to tell us you were here. We know that by your post(s).

- Don't post if you don't have time to understand the topic and make a cognitive response that everyone can understand.

- You might want to research the subject at hand before posting.

If I walk into Target and steal a DVD, is it really not stealing since Target didn't invent the DVD?

That said, I agree that with these examples, M$ isn't stealing

Just gonna say this quickly here

The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player, iMovie was not the first video editing software (but probably the first packaged on al computers), widgets and gadgets are kinda stolen from konfobulator.

Honestly, Microsoft was 5 years too late with the Zune.

Today, I come not to you for help, but to you for a discussion.

WHO STOLE WHAT FROM WHOM

Apple Stole:

COMPETES WITH -Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Publisher and made it completely better!! with iWork http://www.apple.com/iWork

Creating a competing product doesn't really qualify as stealing, especially if the interface and concepts of using the application are totally different. Regardless, if we take your definition of stolen, Microsoft stole Word from Lotus Notes and apps like that, and they in turn stole it from typewriters.

Microsoft Stole:
iPod (Zune) -competing product
iMovie (Windows Movie Maker)

While the Zune was pretty much a "me too!" product, at least they didn't copy the interface and scroll wheel.

iCal (Calendar included with Vista)
iPhoto (included with Vista)
100% stolen- Chess (Chess program included with Vista{a COMPLETE duplicate of Apple's Chess})
Interface is identical, so yeah, direct ripoffs. The concept of a Calendar or photo organizer aren't ripoffs, but these products are exact duplicates.

Please. Vista doesn't have anything NEAR the usefulness of expose. :)

Dashboard and Widgets
Spotlight

Granted, these aren't original Apple ideas (see Google Desktop and Konfabulator).

People get it all wrong.

It's not who comes up with the product "first", it's who gets it right faster.

I think what happens is that M$ "tries" to capture the "feel" of Apple products, the "cool" factor, the "it just works" principle, now, wether they get it right or not it's up to you to form an opinion.

Apple copies when it needs too, M$ too.

M$ just seems to be a little more... "needy", LMAO!

How can Apple steal iWork from someone else, they have been making similar integrated application for 20+ years.

AppleWorks released for Apple 2 in 1984

Of course iWork is a step back and forward at the same time, since a major chunk of functionality was lost while AppleWorks withers.

Come out with the spreadsheet already Apple and add a Filemaker Lite package to the box...

But Windows doesn't have a cool cube transition like Apple. :)

it does, try do a google search for "windows cube". but of course, best cube is in linux, at least for now...or in next 2 years

ps. u can even do a cube effect when switching tabs in firefox, which, obviously, is windows only, and D3D sponsored.

To all, the topic is insane, steal is totally abused, first, OP better define what a "steal" is. Its not like in order to do something, only one app is allowed, and nobody should compete with that "first in kind"?

This whole argument is just stupid. Let's take firefox for example. They invent tabbed browsing (I don't know if they did but let's just assume) and it was a good idea. Really makes browsing easier. Is nobody else ever allowed to use this idea without being accused of stealing?

If people didn't take inspiration from what came before we would be nowhere. Standing on the shoulders of giants and all of that. People should be glad that good ideas are recognised and make their way into more products. If all software continues to get better (Microsofts, Apples, Whoevers) who exactly is losing here?
