That is a reason why if you can, always buy from a place that has a great return policy (like Costco!).I just bought my MBA with 16GB ram less than 3 weeks ago. Does anyone experience if they compensate in such a case?

Back in March? 100% no way they will make any adjustments after 7 months!Same here, but back in March when the M3 Air launched. Curious on and pricing adjustments too.
A "couple" of months is likely about 5, if one assumes that the M4 rollout is following the same pattern as the M3, which it appears to be. That's nearly half a year still.Yeah and? My point is it makes no sense to buy an M2 or M3 Air even with the increased RAM when the M4 Air is a couple months away.
I mean, it probably still is for them, and for others. It's not hard to understand that different people have different needs.Where are all those folk who said 8GB was more than enough???
You're definitley right, I'm not even going to bother. Just unfortunate for the change mid-generation having already purchased. I'll just look at it as me paying the extra $200 to get my Air 7 months early lolBack in March? 100% no way they will make any adjustments after 7 months!
Glad that you see the value. $200 sometimes is $200. But you can't replace what the laptop is providing you at the moment. After hearing rumors 4 months ago of Apple discontinuing the 8GB model, this was well needed for Apple. You seeing the value of 16GB allowed you to future proof at moments like this...I don't feel the need to do that. I got a good deal with the extra back to school gift card, I'm still happy. I understand not everyone would be![]()
That sucks, but it's still a very good computer that will probably perform well for the duration of their college program.Dammit. I just bought a 8GB M3 Air for my college freshman not even two months ago.
Correct! To my knowledge, every M-series Mac is listed as Apple Intelligence compatible, including all of the 8GB models.
They only need 4GB, not 8GB.I mean, it probably still is for them, and for others. It's not hard to understand that different people have different needs.
it is for the majority of usersWhere are all those folk who said 8GB was more than enough???
Not me....as I sell Macs and try to help customers avoid this costly mistake for long term use and performance stability.Where are all those folk who said 8GB was more than enough???
Return it and get a new one. It should still be within the return window.I just bought my MBA with 16GB ram less than 3 weeks ago. Does anyone experience if they compensate in such a case?

They had to or Apple Intelligence would not run on them.I'm impressed. Apple is being too generous. Something does't fit here... 😅

Hopefully it means that more substantial changes are coming besides M4. Ditto for Studio.Could have just updated to M4 as well.. really frustrating product "strategy".
Feel free to make fun of more but there are actually companies that will do this for certain productsDoes Tim Apple compensate in such a case? Surely you jest!
I have 16 Gb on my Air and I use it for AI image rendering on device. There are two problems. One if the low RAM that is shared but the second is the bandwidth on the RAM is low compared to dedicated video cards that most people use to render. The M4 pro and Max try to fix some of this...but likely out of my range. But when a 4090 sells for $1600 by itself...maybe it's worth it to stay on the platform instead of buy a dedicated AI machine.A surprise but not in some ways. I believe this is all in response to their scramble on the AI train. The RAM was fine for normal computing tasks but for AI and on device AI it’s not enough.
It’s a pity for people who recently bought MacBooks as essentially those who bought the 8GB versions could end up horribly hobbled in terms of AI support and Apple will probably use the RAM spec as a cut off for OS support.
MacBooks Air with 16 GB will likely be far longer supported by OS updates than the 8 GB versions unless they just drop lots of AI support for the lower spec.
These unexpected updates to RAM mid cycle scream scrambling and no forward long term anticipation or thinking. Apple has for too long been restrictive on RAM but has been caught out by the increased requirements of AI.
I haven't seen any. I've seen posters and billboards that are you're standard iPhone ad with 16 in big font.
A little "*Apple intelligence available in the fall" in small print at the bottom.
I bought my intel based mac as the last 27 inch iMac because I was nervous about apple silicon. I was a little bit in a pickle because my kids had thrown the other iMac off a table and busted it so needed to make a purchase but I remember thinking its was best to get intel and then see how the silicon does. Silliest decision ever.By now, people with Intel-based Mac should have no excuses to not upgrade unless they're stuck with some decade old software or attach to the 27-inch iMac form factor.
