Lets be honest...about 90% of the new iPhone "apps" are web pages we've never heard of. That's why I think we're particularly vulnerable. Again, it would just take someone creating a semi-popular new iPhone specific web "app" to get iPhone users rushing to their site.

You are absolutely right! Until they fix I definitely have curbed my iPhone web apps use. There is absolutely no way to validate the reputation of many of these sites and people are giving them their yahoo, aol, facebook, etc. passwords right and left. Not to mention the exploits.

I'm interested to see if the subsequent updates disable the modifications that many people want and need. This thing just gets more interesting by the day.

Thats what i dont want to happen. Do everyone think its possible? How would apple know if people hacked their iphones? Im talking about the regular hacks like changing home screen icons and carrier logos and adding ringtones, not the bypassing activation and that kind of hacks. I was also thinking about how many times i restored my iphone to factory settings. That may be a way to tell who hacked their phones or not.

I really doubt they care if you modify from that standpoint, it seems more probable that with the major updates some of the files you modified may be overwritten so if you've made changes to those files you'll have to mod all over again. More of a pain in the butt than anything else.

^ ahh yea that makes perfect sense, i never thought of that. But i did think of this, Apple could make money off of personalized home screen icons and mods of that sort. i would be willing to pay a few dollars to have my phone look different from everyone else. If the hackers can do it, im pretty sure apple could work it into itunes. And St. Germain i know i got a little off topic, sorry.

The iPhone can be hacked via 3rd-Party internet applications. Once they get a large fanbase via their application, a hacker can exploit many, many iPhones when they log on to their application.

That's my understanding of the matter. I'm not sure if it is correct though.

What kind of info could the bad hackers get off of our iphones if they wanted to?

So they can only get your phone numbers? And who are "they" and do they have to be physically capturing your data? Or can the program be a bot and just get your data? And wouldn't you have to activate a program that is supposed to do something before anything can happen?

I mean, I understand there is a flaw, but is this an issue that can be crippling to a user? Everyone sounds so dramatic and mad about it.
