Apple Black Friday Discount 13" Air Only ...

I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to the US store. The margin of profit is likely bigger for the 13" than for the 11" - particularly the 11" base.
If 50$ makes or breaks a purchase of a laptop you need, I'm sorry to say you never could afford it in the first place.
I not only agree with that, I am living proof of it.
I bought my 13 inch Ultimate MBA at the Penn Square Apple Store in OKC last month and paid full bore retail for it, plus 8.375 percent sales tax. As a practice, I hate, hate, hate, to pay MSRP or sales tax for anything but I made an exception this time. I have wanted an MBA for most of the last year but had to eliminate the old model from consideration because I needed at least 4GB of RAM and being limited to 128GB of storage would have been inconvenient. Anyway, I am loving the quality of my MBA and am already forgetting the price.I don't know that the OP meant it was make or break. The fact that they came out just one month ago, I'm sure there are plenty of people who have waited for Black Friday to see what discounts there will be. Saving money is saving money. Doesn't mean that it's make or break. $50 is $50.
Agreed. I went with MacMall when they had their Apple Insider promo for the same reason. $100 was $100, even though I was prepared to pay $1799 for mine.
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if the Black Friday deal is limited to the 13" model, if it includes the MacBook Air at all. I'm guessing that the cheaper 11" models are selling very well already.
If 50$ doesn't make or break a purchase, I wouldn't bother making a thread crying about the rumored lack of a discount.
If all things are equal otherwise, there's no reason why anyone would want to intentionally pay more. I can see many people are holding out to see what Apple has to offer in their black friday sale. From reading his post, I didn't get the feeling that he won't buy an MBA unless there's a discount. But I can certainly understand a little disappointment if only selected configurations of the MBA are on sale and not the one that he wants. No, this may not be the most interesting thread, but not the least either...

Black Friday deal is only for 24 hours only. So, apple is not required to price match. I haven't seen any online or retail stores that price match BF prices.

Ultimate Macbook air costs 1399 dollars as MSRP. If you are buying a laptop that costs 1000-1500 dollars and you are worrying about 70-80 dollars, then maybe, this laptop is not in your price range. I understand that every penny counts, but it is just silly to worry about it. Apple laptops have high resale values and MBA is a ultra slim laptop and the costs will be very worth as long as you keep for extended period of time. If you are student, you can already save money. If you work, apple will most likely offer you discount thru your employer.
But seriously... What did you expect from apple? 11 inch model is selling very good without a doubt and it is still on 1-3 days before it even goes to shipping. Apple does not have to discount it to sell this.

So when you buy a $30,000 car, you wouldn't care about a $2000 discount. Likewise, when you buy a $500,000 house, you will pass on a 35,000 discount?
Apparently the saving is around 7.5% on the 13.3" MBA. I waited for BF to see if there was a deal before buying and I'm by no means someone who needs to think before spending £1500 on a laptop. For me, a month reading up on reviews and possible issues with the machine before buying have been invalubale in making up my mind to buy this rather than wait for a Sony Vaio Z update in the New Year with USB 3.0 and probably spending twice the money.
The discount will probably be £115 which is not to be sneezed at and I'll pick up Microsoft Office and Parallels which are being discounted too. I'll likely save £150 at least which will offset the cost of Applecare rather nicely thanks very much.
It's only common sense to take advantage of the only day in the year when Apple discounts new gear when you happen to be in the market for an Apple machine particularly when you're not eligible for an education discount or anything else. Only a fool would pass up the opportunity.

No one would pass up a discount, but if you can afford a 500,000$ house, you won't be making a thread on Housingrumors.com if you find out there's no 35,000$ discount on Black Friday.

$50 is a forgettable loss, 35,000 is a life changing loss.
The UK deals just went up a little while ago and it's £81 off a £1349 13" MacBook Air, or 6%. Again, it's just the 13" model.

You are comparing laptop to car.
Obviously there is much more margin for companies when you buy a car or house. For laptop, there is a smaller margin than car and the house. When companies have more profits on the item they are about to sell, they will discount more. Also, I cannot even freaking believe you are comparing this laptop to house. 50-80 dollars isn't that much money at all. 2000 or 35000 dollars is.

To indicate the worthlessness of yet-another-whining thread. People like to whine and I like to point out they shouldn't cry wolf until there's a real wolf out there. Seriously, whining about defective products before even contacting Apple, whining about lack of a 50$ discount...
But the good news is it does include the CTO models, so you can boost the RAM or CPU and still get the $101 off.
The deals are not enough for me to take the plunge. I posted in another thread, that as part of my benefits, my company provides some $$ towards a new computer. I'll have to wait till 2011 to take advantage, but if apple was going to discount the MBP/MBA a little more (which they never do), I'd probably take the plunge now. Oh well, patience will have to be my virtue
