Upon further testing, we have concluded that at max volume, or near it, (we have a big living room) we DEFINITELY think that everything sounds louder and richer with BOTH reduce loud sounds and enhanced dialogue off.

A couple of examples that perhaps you could try: Search for the "Napoleon" trailer in the Apple TV app, and play the "trailer 2". The first scene of the trailer is DEFINITELY louder with "Enhanced Dialogue" off.

The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix, episode 1: The opening sequence narration is DEFINITELY louder with Enhanced Dialogue off.

At very low volumes though, Enhanced Dialogue makes voices clearer.

Very strange.

Anyone else with the same issue?

Go to settings, video and audio, scroll down and it is under audio format. Turn on or off enhance dialogue
The only option I see on my Apple TV is the option to turn on Dolby Digital 5.1. I don’t see Enhanced Dialogue at all. 🤷‍♂️

I finally tried this out while watching a YouTube video by Proper Honest Tech. It’s literally just a guy talking, no background music or effects.

Sounded great. Much more vocal clarity, without actually raising the volume.

Moving to busier content but wanted to hear it at a baseline first.

Yeah, with stereo content it works great. Is with Atmos and 5.1 where it actually makes the voices lower/muddier for me.

@ShawnTXDFW

For it to work, you need to have:

A). The Apple TV AND the Homepods themselves updated to the latest stable software version.

B). The Homepods set as the default audio output of the Apple TV.

Ah, and before making the homepods the default audio output of the Apple TV, disable "Change Format" in the Apple TV audio settings. Leave it on "Auto" for the best possible sound quality.

And make sure that "Audio mode" is on "Auto" as well. (Apple TV settings/Video and Audio/Scroll Down until you see it).
